Flame

She was broken beautifully
Not limb to limb
Like an ill-fated animal
Yet better, piece by piece
Her heart was torn apart
Although a flame still remained within.

Into the realms of darkness she drifted
As dark as the lonely unseen face of the moon
She trudged along with faltering steps
Into a river of glimmering grief-filled drops
All she felt was her broken soul
Although a flame still remained within.

She sat by the fire in the winter chill
It still felt cold, the fire didn't warm her anymore
Her last resort was the flame within
Which now wavered as its fuel finished
All the hope was replaced with dread
And so the flame finally extinguished.
