Amy's POV
This is all my fault. I stared at the ceiling, repeating the same thought over and over. No, it wasn't a thought, it was true. This is all my fault.
I turned over in my bed, staring at the heart-shaped carpet on the floor, or the vanity covered in pictures of my loved ones with pink stickers, or my closet full of matching red dresses and boots. Everywhere was hearts, reflecting what mine was before it was broken. I turned over again, staring at the pink wallpaper I chose when we first moved in. It too had little white hearts on the borders. I threw my red blanket over my head, burying my face into my pillow. With every heart I saw, all I could think of was the boy that still had mine—the boy that was gone because of me—my poor, sweet Sonic.
This is all my fault. I was in the wildflower field, bitterly kicking the grass. Sonic had just stood me up for another date, and I had nothing to show for it. I sank to my knees, crying to the purple and white flowers around me. My shoulders shook, my fists tightened around the folds of my skirt. My face was red with embarrassment, and my warm tears tried to wash the color away. Then the ground shook. Before I could turn around, I was thrown across the field with a single swing. I hit my head on the ground and everything went black. If I had just fought harder against that stupid robot!
This is all my fault. Suddenly, there he was. Sonic was shaking me awake. He looked so worried, so upset. I wasn't sure why though, until I saw Eggman at the top of the room. I heard their voices, but not what they were saying. I felt so wobbly, and I leaned against Sonic to keep myself standing. He put a hand in front of me, to keep me safe from Eggman. I always feel safe when Sonic's around. If only I wasn't so weak!
This is all my fault. The air was rising, and I was rising with it. Sonic took my hand in his, but he was rising too. He held me in his arms as he ran, and I did the same. Debris was falling, heading towards the swirling blue and pink light. Sonic threw me behind a generator right before he slipped. He caught the side of it, struggling to hold on. I reached my hand out to him. I could feel the wind trying to lift my feet. I grabbed his hand in mine.
Everything was fine. For just that millisecond of time, everything was fine. I had him, and he had me. I smiled at him, holding back the tears in my eyes, because everything was going to be fine. He stared past me with a mix of fear and horror, but when his eyes met mine, his face changed. The corners of his mouth lifted into a smile. I saw his lips move. He said, "Sorry."
He let go. Everything wasn't fine anymore. The swirling light swallowed him up, and then the machine. The light fell in on itself for a moment, then came back with the force of a bomb. I fell on my back, my ears ringing. There was dust and smoke in the air and it made me cough. I stood up, even dizzier than before. I looked at the generator, right where Sonic had been. A wave of emotions ran through. It should've been me.
I saw him. In the corner of my eye, I saw him. Through the debris and twisting clouds of dust, his silhouette was there. His spiky quills, his needle nose, swishing left and right looking for me. I called his name, and he turned to face me. I ran forward, grinning ear to ear. My hand reached out for him, only for a wave of dust to hit my face. I heard Tails land beside me, and I heard Knuckles kick something. I opened my eyes, there was a human on the ground. Yet, if I looked in the distance, I could still see his silhouette. I left him.
This is all my fault, but I'm going to make this right.
