Cade was new here, but he guessed he was at the right place as he walked in a tall white and silver building.
"Operator, I've discreetly hacked the cloud system just enough to find out this is S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters and it is called the Triskelion. I believe Director Fury would have left a note saying you'd be arriving," Ordis said as Cade entered the building, followed by Hera. The guards eyed Hera and nodded to guards inside, unlocking the doors. Cade walked on a marble floor down a few hallways till he was meeted by a man in a suite, followed by soldiers holding weapons nonthreateningly. The man in the suit gestured inside an elevator and Cade walked in and Hera sat at his feet as the men entered the lift.
Cade looked around as the guards held onto their weapons. "I'm not going to fight you, and neither is my pet. I'm here because Fury invited me," Cade said.
"We know, sir. But we're only following orders," one soldier replied.
Cade nodded approvingly. "Good then. If you're following orders, then you're good in my book," Cade said as he stepped into a well furnished office and he appeared before his Warframe and sat down. Fury sat at his desk.
"Mr. Cade. I understand that you joined the Avengers. If they weren't clear on what their job is, then I'll elaborate. Earth has had normal threats that normal solutions can solve. But different threats are popping up on our radar. Tech moguls gone rogue, old rival wrecking tech expos, and now a Norse god brings an alien invasion into New York. With you showing up, I want to know what I need to know. Your capabilities, any help you can give, and any information you can give us should some of your enemies show up and their weaknesses," Fury asked.
"Since it seems we have the time, would it be in order to start from my awakening several years ago," Cade said as he looked Fury over.
"Yes, if it's alright with you. We are allies and nothing you don't want on the record doesn't leave this room," Fury said as he leaned forward.
From there, Cade began when the Lotus woke Excalibur from his cryostasis, only to be hacked by Commander Vor of the Grineer Empire, but later freed from the device. Then he spoke of his conflicts with the system wide business empire Corpus and the assistance of getting freedom to the people of Fortuna on Venus. Fury was intrigued especially in the mention of the collection of soul fragments belonging to the lost Tenno Rell, leading Cade to where he had passed his soul into his Warframe that became known as Harrow, an entity of the Void.
Fury leaned back to a comfortable position in his chair. "Well, is this "Rell" situation with Warframes a new circumstance?" Fury asked, appearing to go somewhere in the conversation.
"Not entirely. While the Harrow Warframe has Rell's soul imbued with it, thus giving it the power it has, there was one case where a Warframe was made from an actual person. His name was...Umbra, now known as Excalibur Umbra. Similar to the Excalibur Warframe behind me, but was sentient and capable of moving on its own, as well as being very dark grey with gold trim and had a long black scarf and tattered black fabric on the chest. Sadly, my last Orbiter was destroyed pre-extraction, along with Umbra and a few others I didn't have in my main base, as well as an arsenal of high tier weapons," Cade said as Fury got up and asked him to follow him.
Fury and Cade got in an elevator that seemed to go down for a mile and a half. Fury opened the door and led Cade to a set of solid steel doors. Behind them, Cade could hear a familiar, echoing howl of pain and agony. He pushed the doors open to see the grim form of Excalibur Umbra beating on a clear barrier. Umbra looked at Cade and Cade saw the scarred face that was an echo of Umbra's old life. Cade ran to the glass and held his hand to it. Umbra calmed down and put his hand up. Cade turned to Fury. "Why did you imprison him? He did you no harm."
Fury rubbed his head. "I have about thirty dead or wounded agents who would say otherwise. We kept him here because that room was filled with residual energy from the Tesseract, the Infinity gem responsible for the Chitari invasion. He was barely alive when we found him. Even now, we can tell he doesn't have enough power to fully heal and repair, just stop any further damage. He and whatever Tenno tech we got is yours anyway," Fury said as the door opened and Umbra fell to his knees. Cade disappeared and Umbra raised his hand and a black and gold blade flew out of a locker and into his outstretched hand. Cade pressed the end to the floor and stood up, sheathing the weapon. Cade reappeared and looked back to see Umbra's faceplate seal up, restoring its former glory. Cade turned to the locker set in front of him and saw bits and pieces of Warframes. This could take a while.
Three months later, the S.H.I.E.L.D. warehouse had been emptied of any Tenno tech and he had been able to enlarge his Orbiter to compensate for the excess of gear and Warframes. Cade piloted his Orbiter over a landing pad on the new Avengers Tower. Umbra sat on a couch in the lounge, waiting for Cade to be ready. Cade walked in, carrying a new scarf, nikana, and a silken cape that was the same color as the scarf. Cade dissapeared and Umbra wrapped the scarf on and put his new gear on as he went to the hatch and back flipped onto the landing pad. As he landed elegantly on the pad, Cade looked up to see Steve watching from a chair on a balcony.
"Cade, I heard you were moving in. Your room is next to mine. I'll show you where it is," Steve said as he got up. Cade appeared in front of Umbra, who picked up a locker of belongings. Steve paused and looked back. "I thought you told Stark that your suits weren't able to run on their own," He said as he walked through the marble and steel hallways.
"That's true for all but Umbra. He was a man turned into a Warframe, then was ordered to kill his son, burning that forever into his memory. Because he was a person once, it gives him a sense of being a person. He can't talk, but him and I do talk when I'm controlling him. He's not a bad guy," Cade said as Steve pushed a door open.
"Well, you've got plenty of space here for you and whatever you need. I'm still learning the culture nowadays. See, I was frozen in ice for some seventy years or so. Back then, we didn't have any of...this. Anyway, if you need something, let JARVIS know. That's Stark's robo-butler or something. I'll also be around if you need me," Steve said as he walked out.
Umbra set the locker against a wall. Cade grinned slightly. "JARVIS?" Cade asked.
"Yes, sir. JARVIS is ready to serve, to a point. What do you require, sir?" JARVIS said.
"Does Mr. Stark have a simulation room prepped for live weapons?" Cade asked.
"Yes, sir. If you get in the lift down the hall to your right, I can transfer you to the room. Do you require combat simulations or do you have tactical data available for an accurate recreation of hostiles?" JARVIS asked.
"I have my data. Make it ready for me in five minutes," Cade said as he disappeared and Umbra exited the room towards the lift in question. As he entered the room, Cade sent JARVIS the necessary data. Cade kneeled in the middle of the room and noticed in his peripheral that the room became Umbta's moonlit garden courtyard. Suddenly, Sentient Mimics appeared around him. Rearing his head back, Cade howled, arcing energy everywhere, hitting the Mimics. Drawing Umbra's Exalted Blade, he dashed from Mimic to Mimic, slashing them apart in a fury. Hearing new enemies, he turned to see four platoons of Corpus crewmen opening fire. He raised his Exalted Blade and blocked the incoming fire and bullet jumped at them and began swinging his blade in mad fury. He turned and swung his blade, pausing short of an unstained Natasha.
"Pretty rigorous training. Maybe sparring person on person would sharpen that skill," Natasha said as Cade appeared.
"If you're sure about that," Cade said.
Umbra turned and stood off to the side and watched as Cade circled Natasha. Natasha swung a kick, but it was dodged by Cade. Cade hit the floor and swept his leg out, which was also dodged by a jump from Natasha. It broke out into a fast-paced swing of punches and chops, stopping as Cade Void-Hopped through Natasha and flipped her on her back.
"That was a good workout. Now, what did you come down here for?" Cade said as he pulled Natasha up.
"Fury contacted me and told me to give you a mission. There's a S.H.I.E.L.D. officer that was captured during the raid on the Helicarrier when Loki attempted to crash it shortly before the Battle of New York. Your mission is to break into a secure facility in the outskirts of the city and rescue the officer," Natasha said as she followed Cade into his room where the locker had become an Arsenal port built into the wall.
Cade grinned as he looked back. "Watch this."
