dear movies,

(this was an AP language and composition project. we were told to base our poem off of kobe's dear basketball poem)

dear movies,
the first time
i saw a film in theaters with my parents
was when i saw curious george,
and from that moment
i have been hooked.

i don't really remember that day,
but my parents say
that they couldn't tear their eyes away.
but it wasn't the screen they couldn't look away from.

it was me.

you are to me
as religion is to other people
in that you are there for me
in times of strife,
in times of peace,
and in times of simple existence.

i can remember sick days,
snow days,
and everything in between.
coming home from school to you
is like coming home to an old friend's warm embrace.

i can remember normal days,
nothing special about them
other than you.

the special evenings when my father would sit me down
and pick a film
will always be the times that i hold closest to my heart.

the time i spend with you
is time spent in another reality.
some day i wish to be a part of you
the same way as you have always been a part of me.

to inspire others is your greatest quality
and something i have admired all my life.

all it takes
is the opening of a box,
the pop of some popcorn,
the comfortable warmth of a nearby loved one
and the click of a button.

the screen flickers.

you come to life.

love you always,
jenna
