(so this piece is actually also about the dream team. my friends like to come up with analogies, and one of them decided to dub each of us one of the meals of the day— so i wrote a poem about it.
for clarification:
breakfast is one friend.
lunch is another.
i am dinner.
dessert is the last of us.
enjoy!)

the meals of the day are crucial,
breakfast, lunch, and dinner alike.
but don't forget dessert,
the best of the bunch,
a real treat to those who allow themselves the luxury.

an early morning pancake,
she is light and fluffy.
she calls to you before you are truly woke,
easing you into a day of hard work,
with warmth and comfort that not only fills your stomach,
but makes your heart whole.

some mornings,
she is generously drizzled syrup,
sweet, but sloppy,
and laughing about it despite everything.

but no matter what she is,
fluffy or sloppy,
she always puts a smile on your face.

at the stroke of noon there comes lunch,
he consoles your stomach's deep grumble.
though breakfast you may skip,
he is universal.
he grounds you.
he welcomes you.

he could be anything:
a sandwich,
a salad,
a soup,
or even a stew.

but no matter what he is,
meat, vegetarian, vegan, or otherwise,
he, also, always puts a smile on your face.

dinner is boring.
she's always plain chicken.
annoying,
loud to clean up after,
and unappetizing.

she is apologetic.

if you are in for a treat,
dessert follows after the previous three.
the best of the best,
he can be salty or sweet,
and he always brightens the end of the day.

dessert is always fun.
you may not always think you need dessert,
but we all know that he is a necessary part of every day,
and even if you don't think you need him,
you always want him around.
because dessert is always great.

the meals of the day are crucial,
breakfast, lunch, dinner,
and don't ever forget dessert.
they are the best part of every day.

they complete the day.
they make everything great.
so thank you, meals of the day.
