Chapter 7: Sister.

Ji hye's POV

Math class

"Okay class! We are gonna have mathematics now. Please take out your books so we can start class" our teacher says as she flips her book open

" Madam! We lost our book! " Chanyeol and Chen shouts

" I know you guys have it, now take it out! " she says

" idiot teacher, just start class! " I mumble angrily under my breath

" ji hye, you have something to say? " our teacher asked

" nothing, Mrs.. um.. Madam" I say

" okay... So let's begin! " she says excitedly as she looks down at her book

" ok class, do you understand this formula? " mrs Jung asked

" yes...." We all said

" ok, so Tao come and do the next question." mrs Jung said

" umm, mrs Jung.... I....... Have a stomach ache " tao says as an excuse

" 5 minutes left. So tao go and next math class, I'll ask you the same question. "

" okay. " Tao says as he walks out.

" Free time till end of school. Dismiss." Mrs Jung said

" good bye mrs Jung. " we all said

Five minutes later.

*Ring*

'Home I go!' I thought as i packed my bags

The trees lightly swayed and the soft breeze hit me, i wrapped my cardigan tighter around me as i put my earpiece in my ear.

A young girl jumps infront of me and i take out my earpiece

" lets play unnie." The little girl whines

" sweetie, where are your parents? " I asked softly

" gone! Gone! " she shouts while crying

I pull myself back in shock when she had started crying

" are you lost?, come let's find them " I say as I pat her back

" we won't find them, they are gone. " she saya while crying

" let's go! We can find them, I bet they are around "I say as i stood up holding her hand

She pulled me back. I stumbled back a bit.

" They are here " she said as she points to the sky

She pulls me by the hem of my cardigan and i lend my ear to her "heaven." she whispers softly

" what's your name sweetie?" I ask

" Amanda "

" Are you English? "

" yes, my dad is American and my mom is Korean. I was born in Canada and raised here. "

" where are you staying? I can take you home." I said as I pulled her hand motioning for her to stand up

" I ran away from the orphanage . " she said squatting

" why?" I said as I squatted to match her eye level

" I don't like the girls there. " she said

'I guess i should not ask why.'

"Well, where are you staying now? " I asked

" Can I come with you? " she asks

" I'm not so s--" I didn't continue because she cut off

" Please, i have no one left! " she asks as she looks at me with the saddest look

" I'll try." I say as i stand up

" yeah! " she cheered as she stood up also

" But first things first, I can not guarantee anything. " I say thinking about my mom

I was walking with Amanda home.

" mom! I'm home" I shouted from the door

" sweetie you're ho--" mom walks out of the kitchen with her kimchi jjigae in her hand and stops as she sees Amanda

" hi " Amanda said as she waves to my mom

" ji hye, you brought a friend home, who is this? " she asks looking at me while placing the jjigae down

" this is Amanda, mom " I replied

I let Amanda's hand go and walk behind my mom to the kitchen

" would you like to explain? I doubt your friend who be that short plus you don't have friends. " my mom says as she taps her foot on a beat.

" Mom! I know I'm alone but i can have friends right? Okay whatever, So long story short, her parents died and she has no home " I said

" and? " She says noticing what i want to say next

" can she stay? please mom. " I begged

" But there are a lot of things to consider and you know- "

" I know but look, she is still so young. I can't help it and if you put her in the orphanage, we don't know what will happen! Have you seen the news recently? " I say truthfully hoping she would agree

" For now, i would agree but i still have a lot of procedures to go through, until then, i do not want the both of you to cause any trouble, okay? "

" Thank you mom! " I say as i hug her

I run out of the kitchen to tell Amanda the good news.

" Amanda! You can stay! " I shout and hold her hand

" Thank you, thank you so much. I didn't expect a yes! Auntie thank you so much. Thank you! " Amanda says while bowing to my mom who just came out of the kitchen.

" would you like to tell me about yourself? " I ask as i lead her to the couch

" I'm Amanda Kim/ Kim jae gyeong. I'm 13 years old. I'm American born Korean. I can speak English, Korean, mandarin and Cantonese. That's all for now and you? "she asked

" Im choi ji hye. I'm 17 and I'm a full Korean. I'm trying to learn English and mandarin. Can you teach me? " I ask

" sure! I am delighted to do so. "

" thanks, can we start some time this week?" I asked

" Sure, can I go to the place i am sleeping at first? " she asks

We walked up the stairs and into the spare room
