NOVEMBER stared down at her skates as she waited there nervously. Thoughts about the game were going through her mind. This was it- the final playoff game against the hawks.

She aimlessly bounced her leg up and down. She couldn't help but be nervous and sad as they had a high chance of losing this game. She also was quite bummed that her parents couldn't make it. She understood that they had work and all but she would have thought they at least try and come for part of the game- or even say good luck at the most.

"where's Adam and Charlie?" she heard Guy say loudly, snapping Nova out of her thoughts.

The girl snapped her attention up to see Connie shrug and walk out of the locker room with Averman and the rest of the team.

Guy looked at Nova as she sat there with a confused expression. He gave her a questioning look before she shrugged it off and walked out behind the team.

She walked along until she reached the ice, immediately searching the stands with hope. Unfortunately, she sighed sadly before skating over to where Connie was talking with Averman.

"Howdy" Nova greeted unenthusiastically as she skated to them.

Connie smiled wide. "hiya!" She said back, "God i'm so excited- but nervous... i can like feel like teeth chattering- or maybe i'm just cold... what if-"

"Connie, you're doing that thing again" Averman snorted as he ran a hand though his red hair.

Connie furrowed her eyebrows and looked at Nova.

"that thing where you talk super fast in a really happy tone while you contradict everything you say," Nova said, "you do that when you're nervous"

Connie raised her eyebrows in subtle shock as Guy skated over to them. "really?"

Averman and Nova nodded before glancing back to Guy.

"Come on," He said as he approached them, "coach is calling us in"

The three nodded before skating off. Nova began to turn and skate towards Bombay but she was stopped as she felt a hand tug on hers.

She looked back to see Guy looking at her with a concerned expression. "are you okay?" He asked

Nova gave a halfhearted smile before nodding. "completely"

He tilted his head and cocked at eyebrow.

Nova sighed and smiled again, lightly slipping her hand away from Guy's grasp. "i'm 100"

Nova hadn't allowed him to speak again as she attempted to get away quickly. Just as she was skating up to where the group stood, she felt a nudge at her side.

She furrowed her eyebrows and looked to her side as she talked: "Guy, i said i was alright... you don't have to worry about me"

She heard a light chuckle. "you have got to stop mistaking me as other people"

She furrowed her eyebrows as she glanced up, "Adam?"

He gave a nod and smile as he looked away and up towards where Bombay was speaking. Nova, however, furrowed her eyebrows and continued to look at him.

"where were you?" She whispered

He didn't avert his gaze from Bombay but instead smiled slowly. "don't worry about it" He whispered back.

Nova sighed and shrugged it off as she looked back to her coach before the final game.

The ducks stood in a line on the ice as the national anthem played. The crowd sang as the players eyed the other team. Nova stood between Averman and Guy as she looked up at the flag hanging above.

Guy looked down at his skates while Averman looked at the hawks with his eyebrow cocked to look more intimidating.

Nova couldn't help but lightly smile and withhold her laugh as her friend failed to achieve looking scary.

She looked down, waiting for the anthem to come to an end before looking forward to see Bombay and Reilly having an intense stare down.

The crowd sang the run before the dimly lit room lit up again and the coaches hollered at their team for motivation.

"lets go!" Bombay called as he clapped his hands. The ducks all followed him to their bench as he walked into it.

Everyone gathered in and held their hands into the middle. Bombay held up at hand, signalling them to wait as he watched the hawks chant.

He waited until they were done before looking back at his team with pure confidence in his eyes.

"alright," he said loudly, "lets get pumped! quack! quack! quack! quack!..."

eventually, the duck fans and parents cheered along as they chanted. Nova looked over at Connie and gave a smile before she glanced around again, meeting eyes with Adam.

He smiled as he chanted before giving her a wink.

"goooooo ducks!" Everyone finished off.

Bombay sent Adam, Charlie, and Jesse onto the ice with Averman and Fulton back on defence.

Nova smiled at Adam as him and Jesse walked out onto the ice. He smiled back at her before Jesse tugged at his jersey, getting his attention.

"Hey Banks!" Jesse said harshly, "don't forget what side you're on."

Adam sighed and slipped his helmet on, stealing a glance at Nova as he skated off.

Nova snapped her attention towards Jesse and gave him a look. "cut him slack, Jesse. If he was going to betray us, he would have done it by now"

Nova shoved pass him as she walked into the box and sat down on the bench. Bombay gave her a look and a thankful smile before focusing back onto the game.

Nova watched intently as the referee dropped the puck. She silently cheered for Adam but soon felt her smile drop as he was being pushed around like a rag doll between Larson and McGill.

McGill didn't even bother taking the puck as he went straight for Adam and didn't stop until he made sure Banks was on the ground.

"Traitor!" She heard McGill growl at him.

Nova clenched her jaw and narrowed her eyes at McGill as Adam groaned and got up from the ground. He adjusted his helmet and looked towards the bench to see Nova looking at him with a 'you can do it' look.

She gave a small smile and nod as he exhaled sharply and smiled, Gaining his energy to continue playing the game he loved.
