Antonio had eagerly awaited the day he turned sixteen, he loved the idea of being in love and being meant for someone who would love him unconditionally. He always dreamed on his birthday he would wake up, see his mark, and spend the entire day trying to find the one he was meant to be with. He read stories online of how people met their soulmate, and how it felt when that mark disappeared.
Yet, when he woke up on his sixteenth birthday he didn't have a mark. He searched everywhere on his body, yes everywhere but there was no mark. Was it possible he didn't have a soulmate?
He went to the internet in hopes of an answer, there was an entire community of people without marks. Some were certain they didn't have a soulmate but some got the marks just later on in life. Antonio had waited sixteen years he didn't want to wait anymore. Was it really possible he might not have a soulmate?
Even with that, it never stopped Antonio from loving. People dated people who weren't their soulmates all the time. So he of course started dating, and to no ones surprise finding girls to date was easy for Antonio. Of course it got around that Antonio didn't have a mark, but that never stopped him.
The next year, on March 17 he woke up with his right hand black. This was the mark everyone had talked about! It was on his hand? He couldn't help but wonder where he was meant to meet his soulmate and where he would touch his soulmate. The next few months he went around touching as many people as he could get away with- all PG of course- but nothing. Yet the eager teenager never gave up.
Lovino on the other hand, woke up on his sixteenth birthday shocked when he found a black hand print around his wrist. Lovino never believed in soulmates, why should he? His parents were "soulmates" and split up so obviously they weren't real. There was many possible explanations for the marks and why they disappear when they do. He believed in science, not fate.
And believe it or not, there are plenty of people like Lovino. An entire community to be exact. They all had weird experiences with their marks, or other peoples marks that led them to the path of disbelief. Lovino not only didn't believe in soulmates, he didn't want one. So he always wore long sleeve shirts to cover up his mark. Not because he was afraid of finding his soulmate, he knew he didn't have one, but because he didn't want to showcase it like other people do. Lovino was never into all that love bullshit.
Lovino knew of Antonio, everyone did.
Not to mention the year after they both got their marks they had sixth period together, Environmental Science. Lovino hated that class, anyone could take it so naturally it was full of idiots wanting an easy A.
Around November, the class was doing a class on energy conservation and in typical teacher fashion Mrs. Button didn't let the students pick their partners. She entered everyone's name into a website and let a generator put people together. Lovino's name was the first to pop up, then the name put with it was Antonio's.
He wanted more than anything to ask her to redo it, the last thing Lovino wanted was some brainless buffoon who would use him for the grade, but she had already stated there was no changing of partners.
*Lovino's POV*
Mrs. Button told us to get together with our partners so we could brainstorm for the rest of the period. I saw Antonio glance back at me, at least he knows which one I am. He got up and pulled a desk up next to mine, guess he got the message then I wasn't moving. As soon as he was settled he smiled at me and stuck out his hand
"I don't believe we have ever met before, I'm Antonio~" I looked at his hand, his palm was black.
"I know who you are." I said and he slowly retracted his hand "Get out a piece of paper" he looked confused but did as I said
"Paper~? Why~?" he asked
"So I can write down all the brainstorm ideas. I would actually like to pass this class." I say as he hands me the paper, I start writing our names, the date, and period.
"Your mark is on your wrist~?" he asked, I guess my sleeve had slipped down while I was writing. I pulled up my sleeve nodded
"Not like any of that matters anyway."
"What do you mean~? That's how you find your soulmate of course it matters~!"
"Soulmates aren't real." I hiss and I can't read his face, it looks confused and concerned?
"You don't believe in soulmates~?" he whispers, I shake my head
"It doesn't matter, we need to focus on energy conservation."
"But how can you not believe in soulmates~? You have a mark~!"
"And you have a brain, so use it to help me."
"Fine~ but I won't forget about this~"
The rest of the class we worked on ideas for our project, once the bell rang I got up
"Hey~ we could probably get a head start on it tonight if you wanna come over~" he said and I stood looking down at his as he packed up
"I don't know about that."
"Why not~?"
"Because I don't want to go over to your house, probably smells over there." I say and he laughs at me, didn't know I was funny.
"Okay give me a valid reason this time~" he says and I open my mouth and he smirks "Exactly~"
"I have to watch my little brother." I say
"How old is he~?"
"Fourteen."
"He'll be fine~ I expect to see you after school Lovino~" he says and I roll my eyes as I make my way out of the classroom
"Don't count on it." I say as I exit
I go to my seventh period and everything is normal. Once it ends, school is over so I walk out the front and bitchboy is waiting for me.
"Ready to go~?"
"I'm not going anywhere with you." I say
"C'mon even if we don't work on the project we can get to know each other~" he says and I walk past him
"And why would I want to get to know you?" I say
"I don't understand your deal with me~ Did I do something to offend you~?" he says following me
"Just because I'm not begging you to be my friend you think I have a problem?"
"No~! I never said that would you stop walking away from me~?"
"Don't think I will."
"Look~ I want to get to know you because I don't want things to be weird between us~ and you seem funny~" Its gotten to the point that I'm now ignoring him "Now you just aren't going to respond~?" I start humming to myself and I hear him gasp behind me "Now that's too much~" he says and before I can even think he grabs my wrist and makes me turn to face him. He is saying something but I'm not focused on that, its what I feel on my wrist and how my heart is pounding. I'm puzzled for a moment but then I realize
My mark is on my wrist. I push him off of me and just start running. As fast as I can, trying to get anywhere I could before he realizes. that's then I hear his voice
"WAIT~!"
