What Rule 12?

Chapter 6

*Ellie POV*
I wake up the next morning confused about my surroundings. Then I remember last night and realize that I'm at Gibbs' place. I get out of bed and get dressed before grabbing my bag and heading downstairs. I go out to my truck and throw my bag in there before going back inside and to the kitchen where Torres and Gibbs are talking and drinking coffee. I go over to Nick and kiss his cheek and then grab my own cup of coffee before joining them at the table.
"How did you sleep cariño" Torres asks
"Pretty well how about you both" I ask
"I slept well the bed is very comfortable" Torres answers
"I actually slept better than usually. Maybe because I knew where at least two of my agents were that night" Gibbs responds
"Maybe. But glad that you finally slept well" I say
We continue the light conversation until we are all done drinking our coffee.
"Torres you going with me or Gibbs" I ask
"I'm gonna go with Gibbs." Torres says
"Okay. I'll see you guys in the squad room" I say
I leave Gibbs' house and get in my truck. I start it up and pull away. I get about three blocks from work when two black SUVs come out of nowhere and sandwich me. Before I can grab my gun and start firing a feel a pain in my neck and the world goes black.
*Nick POV*
Gibbs and I get to work and go up to the squad room. We get up there and the only one I see is McGee.
"McGee has Bishop arrived yet" I ask
"No. Why" he asks
"Ping her phone now" Gibbs says
I start pacing and rubbing my temples trying to calm myself down.
"Torres with me let's go" Gibbs calls
Without really paying attention I follow Gibbs to the elevator. We get in and pushes the emergency stop button.
"What are you doing Gibbs I thought we found her? We need to go get her." I say
"I brought you here so you can calm down a bit. We will find her but you need to have a clear mind when we do so. I can have you go running in there with a clouded mind and then getting shot. You know Ellie will blame herself if that happens" Gibbs says
"You're right. It's just that, why does bad things always happen to the female on the team" I ask
"I don't know Nick. I honestly don't know. Now while McGee and I work on finding Bishop I need you to go see Jack. I don't care what you two talk about but you need some sort of distraction" Gibbs says
"Yeah. Ok" I say
Gibbs turns the elevator back on and I go upstairs while he goes over to McGee. I go to Jacks office and knock on the door. Once I hear her grant entrance I walk in and flop myself down on the couch.
"Ok Nick what's the matter. Did Gibbs not accept you and Ellie" Jack asks
"No. That's not it. Gibbs accepted it. He was completely okay with it. He burned rule 12 because of it" I say
"Okay. Then what's the deal" Jack asks
Before I can answer Director Vance walks in and looks at me.
"Agent Torres I thought we were not going to have anymore distracted days at work" he says
I shoot up from my laying position and walk over to him.
"I'm sorry sir. I'll leave and get back to work." I say
I leave Jack's office and go downstairs. I get down there and Gibbs is the only one in the squad room.
"Torres What are you doing down here" he asks
"Vance saw me in Jack's office laying on the couch and he pretty much demanded for me to get back to work." I say
"Let's go" Gibbs says
"Where to" I ask
"Vance. To tell him about you and Ellie and Ellie" Gibbs says
"Boss I want to do it with Ellie" I say
"No. Now. McGee is down with Casey working so now is the best time to do it" Gibbs says
"Fine" I say
I follow him upstairs and we go to Director Vance's office.
"Gibbs, Special Agent Torres what can I do for you" Vance asks
"We have a case Leon" Gibbs says
"Why have I not heard about this case" Vance asks
"You're finding out now" Gibbs responds
"Okay what is it" Vance asks
"It's Bishop director. She's been kidnapped or something" I say
"And how do you know Agent Torres" Vance asks
"Because she left for work before me and I got here before her. Also McGee wasn't able to ping her phone and she always has it on" I say
"What do you mean she left before you? How would you know" he asks
"Because they were at my place Leon. They were discussing something with me and I then let them stay over" Gibbs says
"What the heck could you three be discussing that needs a sleepover" Director asks
"We were discussing mine and Ellie's relationship sir. We're dating" I say
"Gibbs you're allowing this?" Vance asks
"Yes" Gibbs answers
"What about rule 12" Director asks
"What rule 12? It's gone just like rule 10." Gibbs says
"Like I told Agent Torres the other day, I didn't burn it so the rule is still in play" Vance declares
"Fine. No co-workers dating, that's fine. I'm no longer her co-worker." I say
I hand over my shield and my gun and then turn to head out.
"Agent Torres stop" Vance calls out
"Sorry sir I'm no longer an agent or your employee so I don't have to stop" I retort
I keep walking and slam his door behind me. Jack walks out of her office and looks at me. I ignore her and move past. I don't stop walking until I get to the parking. I arrived and then realize that I didn't drive here. Just as I pull out my phone to call a cab my name is called. I turn around and I see Gibbs running towards me.
"Torres where are you going" he asks
"Home." I say
"No. I can't let you do that" he says
"I'm not going to do anything. I just can't stay here" I say
"Come on. Come inside and let's go down to Casey's lab. Vance rarely comes down there. I need you here for when we find Ellie. I need you to kick a** and be there for her because if anything really bad happened to her she'll feel more comfortable around you" Gibbs reasons
"Fine." I say
"You'll need these. At least for today" Gibbs says handing me my stuff
"Yeah okay" I say
I put them on my body and we go back inside. We go down to Casey's lab.
"What do we got" I command
"Boss" McGee asks
"You heard him. Nick is taking lead on this case until he is no longer level headed" Gibbs says
"Alright so we got no where with pinging her cell and right now we are running facial rec on all traffic cams." McGee asks
Before I can answer my phone rings and it's an unknown number.
"McGee trace my call" I say
He nods and I answer.
N-special Agent Nick Torres
?-hello Nicholas
N-who is this
?this is your brother
N-I don't have a brother
?-yes you do and if you would like to see your precious girl again I suggest you do what I want
N-I'll do whatever just don't hurt her
?-I can't keep that promise. She's feisty so she had to be punished
N-can I have proof that she's okay
?-of course
E-Nick I'm okay
N-oh gosh. Okay what do you want
?-you. Meet me at the gazebo in thirteenth street in two hours.
N-okay
The line goes dead and I look at McGee.
"I didn't get enough to go find a specific location" McGee says
"Okay okay. I'm so I'm meeting up with him. Can we look into my parents files and see if I have a brother? I only ever knew that I had a sister" I say
"Torres you good" Gibbs asks
"Yeah I'm fine. I just want to know who this guy is" I say
"Okay and we will. I still want you to talk to Jack though. She's waiting for you in the squad room. I'll call if we have any updates" Gibbs says
"Okay boss" I say
I ride the elevator to the squad room and before I can step off Jack steps on.
"Hey jack" I say
"Hey. We can't meet in my office. Vance doesn't know that you are working this case" she says
"Wait Gibbs is sneaking behind Vance's back? For me" I ask
"For you and Ellie. Once you walked out Gibbs yelled 'You just made me lose a d*** good Agent and possibly another one' then he ran after you. He would do anything for his agents. You guys are his family." She says
"Yeah" I say
She stops the elevator and I sit on the ground. She sits down as well.
"What's eating at you Nick" she asks
"I just feel like I'm bad luck." I say
"How" she asks
"Every time something good happens it turns bad quickly. When I was little I just found out I was going to be a starter in soccer for school and was so excited to tell me dad but I got home and he started yelling at me and disowned me. I was making something of myself on the streets and then found out he died. I moved back in with my mom and found out I was valedictorian when I found out about the drugs and such. I went to the police academy and started doing undercover work so I could never get hopes up again. I joined the team and my sister had trouble and then disowned me. I confessed to Ellie how I feel and my mom dies. Us dating is approved and she disappears" I say
"Nick none of this is your fault.you are not bad luck. You are a great guy and Ellie is lucky to have a guy like you who would do anything for her in her life" Jack says
"Thank you Jack" I say
"You're welcome" she answers
She turns the elevator back on and we ride it down to Casey's lab. We walk in and they stare at me.
"What" I ask
"We think we found her" McGee says
"What do you mean you think" I ask
"Well when the guy ended the cal I got a small but big area to work with on finding her. I then ran facial rec and license plates for all the traffic lights and security cameras in that location and found a car entering a neighborhood. This neighborhood only has about twenty houses.
"Okay. That's not too hard. The guys I talked to sounded Hispanic and I don't have to meet him for another hour so let's go." I say
"Okay. When we get there we will split up. Jack with McGee and Torres with me. Casey watch the neighborhood and maybe running checks on everyone and see if you find anything fishy" Gibbs says
"Wait hold on do we know who the guy is that called me" I ask
"No. We don't have any record of your mom having a son" Casey says
"Ok. Thanks Casey" I say
We all head out and get in one of the cars. Once get in the neighborhood I see that it's a horseshoe so Gibbs and I take one side of the street and McGee and Sloane take the other. We start going along and asking people but none of them are the person. We get to the last house and I knock on the door. We wait and after thirty seconds no one answers. We all pull out our guns and I kick it down. We all file in and search the house. I hear gunshots from McGee and Jack going upstairs but I continue on towards a door that probably leads to the basement. I open it and Gibbs starts going down the stairs. I go down behind him. We get down there and we spot Ellie on the ground and this guy holding a gun pointed at her.
"Don't come any closer" he yells
"Let her go" I call out
"No. She deserves this" he yells
"No she doesn't. You called saying that you wanted me. Well I'm here. So let her go" I say
I hand my gun to Gibbs and he takes it. I step a bit closer to the dude and he turns off the safety on his gun.
"Hey man look at me, take me and let her go. I will do whatever you say. I want to know who you are and what you want from me" I say
After I say that he swings the arm holding the gun in my direction and keeps it aimed at me.
"You want to know who I am? Huh?" He asks
"Yes man I want to know" I say
"My names Oscar. I'm your half brother. Your dad had sex with my mom and then left her to go to his wife, your mom before you were born" he says
"Okay Oscar. So what do you want with me" I ask
"I want you to tell me where my dad is. I keep trying to find him but then I hear he's dead but I don't believe it. I need to see my dad and if he is dead I also heard you killed him so that means I'm going to kill you" he screams in tears
"Yo man I did not kill my father. He hated me so I left. Yes I might have had a motive to kill him but he's still my father and familia es más importanté para mi. Tú no puedes decir que sober mi" I yell tears coming out and my Spanish
Before I realize I hear two shots. I see Oscar drop and then I feel myself falling. Ellie runs over to me and she's crying.
"cariño stop crying. You're to beautiful to cry" I say
"I c-cant" she stutters
"Hey are you okay? Did he hurt you too bad" I ask
"He t-touched me. He cut me some and burned me. But I'm okay" she says through her tears
I just lay where I am and stroke her face.
"Bishop are you okay" Gibbs asks
"Yeah Gibbs" Ellie answers
"Torres" Gibbs asks
"I don't even know where I got hit Gibbs. My adrenaline is too high" I say
"Alright Torres. A bus is on its way." Gibbs responds
"Hey boss is everyone okay" McGee asks
"Yeah they are okay. At least they will be. You two can go back to the naval yard and start working on paper work and such." Gibbs calls out
"Alright Jethro" Jack says
I hear a door slam and figure that it is them leaving. I then see Gibbs walk over and I feel hands leave me and new hands touching my shoulder. I guess that's where I got shot and Gibbs is keeping pressure on it. Ellie moves to behind me and lays my head on her lap and plays with my hair. Soon the ambulance arrives and Gibbs and Ellie hop on with me. We get to the hospital and they take me off. As soon as I'm in a room they give me medicine and I fall asleep.
