We all like to sound smart even if we aren't considered to be smart. Using big words could in fact make you sound like you know what your talking about. But using a lot of big words can take away from your point. Example : "The Elderly male acknowledged The imbroglio situation" yeah some readers might spend the whole time researching the words you used so fine it down on the big words usage Mabey a few here and there, but not every two words.
