I REACH OUT to stroke her back, her dress is bare behind so I can feel the goose bumps and she lets out a low moan, but then she smiles and there’s this look in her eyes that makes my soul get dizzy.
“Can we get all our love birds to the dance floor?” the DJ announces, the lights dim and the students proceed. I take Boma’s hand in mine, leading her to the floor.
Her eyes still sparkle.
Poe ft. Funbi, Adore Her comes up. She squeaks in excitement.
“I love this song!” she says, clapping and jumping around, her dress simulating flowing stars.
“Well, it's not my favourite song, but I like it.” I say. She smiles more.
I break dance through the intro and she laughs like she might break. I don’t stop though. I promised to impress her and I’m going to do just that.
“Baby, aii, na wetin you dey do…do…do…do…do,” I start singing and dancing around her. She’s swinging her hips from side to side as we get lost in our own little love story.
“You make me fly so high…so high…so high…so high, I’m feeling you…you…you…you…you,” she sings, running her fingers through the back of my neck, I swear I shiver. She sings it again, this time, I spin her before holding her to myself in a way that her back rests on my chest and her head on my shoulders, I’m now leading the dance.
“Girl I’m loving you totally, baby openly, from your head all the way to the floor.” I take her waist in my arms and rock both of us to the floor and back up again.
She gasps, a smile overtaking her surprise. I hand her my tuxedo. “This talk ko le to fun mi, oya jo fun mi, cos you know that your feeling the boy,” I pass some current to Albert and he passes it back, we chop knuckle, before moving to do some windmills on the floor.
“Yo!” the crowd erupts, I hear 'woah’s' escape from the students around us.
I spin out of the windmill and while walking up to her, I feel my blood boil, my sweat singes, she’s in shock, good shock. I take her face in my hands and our lips collide.
I feel our heart rate, it’s like we might explode. She kisses me back with such intensity I get lost in the heat. The blaring music now sounds cushioned by our searing hormones, my senses tell me we’re spinning, my heart goes on drumming.
The music floats back in a sharp procession when she breaks the kiss. Her eyes now look like burning sapphire’s and her lip gloss is gone. She keeps dancing though, like we didn’t just kiss.
“Baby, aii na wetin you dey do, do, do, do, do?” I wrap my hands around her waist again and pull her to me, she laughs and plants another short kiss on my lips. She’s a professional teaser.
“I’m singing Baby aii, na wetin you dey do, do, do, do, do?” she sings.
We sing together. “You make me fly so high, so high, so high, so high I’m feeling you, you, you, you, you, you.”
“Aiit, aiit, aiit love birds, time to get the heat on.” We hear the voice. It’s not the DJ, I turn around to the stage.
“Tjan!!” the crowd roars, the girls especially, including Boma and Chinny, and surprisingly, Albert. He seems more than extremely pleased to be seeing this 'Tjan' guy. The look in his eyes makes me smile. I didn’t think anyone could get that excited.
This should be good.
“Don’t tell me you don’t know Tjan, you have that look that says I have no idea who this is, and why everyone’s so excited.” Boma says. Her words sound sexier by the second.
"We should be kissing non-stop now right?" I wonder aloud.
“Wrong.” She says, her focus is on my lips. She smiles when she sees she’s driving me crazy.
“Sup guys?” His voice beams me out of my daydream, it sounds melodic even when he’s not singing. “Tonight is probably the last time a lot of you guys are going to be this free, before life throws you into the never ending circle. So, I’m going to grant one person the opportunity to pick their favourite song of mine and I’ll do a special rendition.”
“ME!” Albert basically screams. Everyone turns to look at him, I’m not left out, it was almost pathetic. I think Tjan had pity on him because of how badly he wanted it so he invited Albert on stage and a mic was handed over to him.
Nothing prepares me for the vocals Albert belts out. The crowd is silent and still, Tjan is too. He has a smile that says, wow and aww.
“Aduke, please.” He says when he’s done showing off. If that song is Tjan’s, then he’s undoubtedly awesome.
“I hear the first line from Tjan and I know at once that he’s my guy. I have another best love song. The lines keep repeating in my head as we stare into each other's soul, both of us burning with thoughts and emotions and not being able to keep our hands off ourselves.
We did it, we’ve broken the rules.
