31. Ivan

The void between wishes. . .
They truly aren't horses.
When you make a wish on love,
You are already setting it up for failure.
Do what you must, but don't wish, please.

"Boma?" Mother calls. She gets the same scowl. Tosin walks out of the dining room and I know something terrible has gone wrong. I don't know if to chase after her or to ask Tosin what he said to her. I do both

Running after her has me recalling everything that just happened.

When mother called me to her room, it was because she couldn't find the perfect outfit.

"You look perfect. She's going to adore you." I said.

"Son, don't you think this black will scare her?" She asked.

I even called her mom, it sounded weird and she didn't know what to make of it.

"What happened to mother?" She asked,

I said, "I have no idea, come on, I don't want her to get bored."

It was at that moment that my phone beeped it was a message from Boma, I told mother, "see, she's already asking where I am."

"Okay, okay." She chuckled as I pulled her with me.

We walked downstairs and I saw Boma hurriedly leave the dining room. She looked disheveled and she was crying.

"Boma?" I called. The scowl on her face scared me.

"What the fuck did you say to her!" I yell at Tosin.

"The truth!" He shrugs.

I run up to her outside. She's dialing her mom's number.

"Boma," I call, she turns around.

"I have three questions for you, please," she pauses as another wave of tears shake her, "feel free to lie to me again."

"Bo..."

"Who has the car?" She asks me.

I swallow, "it's mine but I..."

"Are you travelling abroad in a few months?"

"Yes." I nod

"Did you ever really love me?" She looks in my eyes.

I know what she's thinking, it's what any reasonable person would think, that you wouldn't lie to someone you love and I've lied a lot.

"Boma..." she slaps my face with such anger I loose vision for a few minutes. I look up and she slaps me again.

"HOW COULD YOU? HOW DARE YOU USE MY PAIN AGAINST ME?" her words cut through me like laser. "I KEPT NOTHING FROM YOU! I TRUSTED YOU!!" She hits me a thousand times on my chest. "I HATE YOU. FOR DOING THIS TO ME. FOR LETTING ME LOVE YOU. GOD WILL PUNISH YOU!!" she weeps. I'm trying to calm her down. She pushes me and I fall.

"What's this god forsaken place called...?"
"Hellooo...mom..." she starts to gasp.

"Boma?" Her mother calls over the speaker.

"Mo...mo..m..." her phone drops. I race to catch her, but I'm too late, she hits the ground, seizes in my arms and slumps.

Jesu! I'm dead. Boma?

"IVAN! WHAT'S HAPPENING!!" her mother screams over the phone, "GOD! MY BABY! IVAN!" I pick up the phone.

"Ma, she collapsed, I'm taking her to the hospital. Life Fountains at G.R.A" I say. I hear her break apart over the phone. I hang up and carry Boma to the car.

"I'm available if you need any help, " Tosin says.

I look at him, heart torn to shreds, tears coating my eyes, "DAMN YOU!" I yell, get in the car and step on the gas.
