Yesi sighed as she stretched and groped at her phone to turn off the alarm. The weather today is generous as the warm rays of sunlight lit up the minimalistic bedroom: clean white walls, a low contemporary bed frame, a grey gradient shag rug lying next to it and a white desk in slight disarray. Yesi rubbed her eyes as she sat up. She is really considering getting blackout curtains. Her drop down window just lets too much sunlight in for her personal taste.

"Morning Tuntun." Yesi greets her closest companion for the last three years. Tuntun is a mostly grey and white exotic shorthair cat she found abandoned as a three month old kitten. At that time she looked pitiful and starved with her adorable flat little face...Yesi only wished for her to grow up healthy and spoiled-therefore giving her the name Tuntun, 'Chubby'.

Tuntun raised her fluffy round head and lazily yawned in response before walking out of the bedroom. Yesi grimaced...Lately it seems like its not just her head that is particularly round, her body looks just as round...Yesi really wanted to reach out and pinch Tuntun's full fluffy butt. She abandoned the thought very quickly as she glanced at the contemporary-style clock hanging on the wall. 7:19 AM. She better get her day running if she wants to get to her Year 4 Music Theory: Aural Skills on time. Professor Gong always gets there exactly 10 minutes ahead and makes whoever that arrives last lead the aural demonstrations for that day. It is kind of his way of keeping them on their toes. She's usually not a keener but with such arrangements it becomes quite bothersome.

Yesi switched on her usual playlist of modern classical, made herself a cup of black coffee and popped a slice of toast into the toaster before jumping into the shower. Of course after getting ready she'd always have breakfast with Tuntun as part of her routine. Tuntun's automatic feeder is always scheduled at 8:00 AM and once at night, 6:30 PM. Yesi spreads a layer of condensed milk on the toast and munched on it as she flips through her phone for the usual daily news. By this time Tuntun had already gobbled down her portion of her meal and laid to rest on her side where a patch of sun is coming through the muted cotton curtains in front of the sliding porch doors.

Yesi glanced at her before checking the time. How can she not get fat with such habits? The only form of physical activity Tuntun does is probably moving along with the sun spot as the day goes by.

8:15 AM. Time to get going. Yesi downed the rest of her coffee and threw on a black oversized distressed denim jacket and pulled on a pair of black Ann Demeulemeester combat boots before running out the door. She had left her cello in the practice hall storage lockers for the night yesterday knowing she'll be spending the rest of her day practicing after class. People called her a genius...A prodigy...Thinking she is just born with it-yes maybe born with a little talent but a genius isn't just born. Yesi firmly believes besides a backing of talent, one's 'genius' is created by their own hard work and dedication as well.

Pulling on her matte black helmet she started up her matching jet black Kawasaki and rode away out onto the streets of Shanghai, barely beating the early traffic.

Yesi lugged herself into her morning class; notebook and pencil case in hand. She checked her phone swiftly before entering the classroom. Perfect. She still has 5 minutes to spare and someone is following in behind her-She didn't arrive last. Yesi almost gave herself a pat on the back as she made her way to her usual spot. Furthest back left corner.

"Good morning everyone. Today we'll begin with our usual aural practices with melodic dictation then analyzing chord sequences. Xia Yesi can you come up and lead the dictation?"

Yesi stared at Professor Gong, inside filled with annoyance and disbelief.

"I didn't get here last."
