XXIV. ANGEL BY THE WINGS

Morning had risen on the streets of the French Quarter, but this day was anything but joyous. Thea, now changed out of her blood-stained clothes sat in the middle of the sigil Vincent had drawn holding a still unconcious Hope in her arms as the rest of her family, each looking saddened by what was about to happen, mulled around the courtyard.

Hayley was stood off to the side, holding Kaiden close to her side as Freya stood with her four siblings, each looking equally as troubled. Klaus had yet to tear his eyes away from the brunette sat on the floor, realising that from this moment on, their lives would change forever. "Uh, Kol if you would, right there," Vincent instructed, moving the youngest Mikaelson brother into position.

Kol nodded, standing in his place as he shot Thea a sympathetic look, sparing a longing look at his niece and nephew. Whilst the original had never been as close with his siblings as they were with each other and hadn't spent as much time with his niece and nephew as he'd have liked to, he would still do anything for them. Hope and Kaiden had brought the Mikaelson family back together, and for that, he was endlessly grateful.

"Uh, Rebekah, perfect. Right there," Vincent spoke to the blonde as she stood in her position, her eyes cast to the floor as her eyes glistened with tears. She had spent a thousand years of her life loving, caring for and hating her older brothers; during that time, she'd craved her freedom more than anything else. And yet, now that she was being granted it, she didn't want it.

The blonde knew she'd be lost without her brothers; not able to see her family again. Her niece and nephew, the two she'd spent 8 months of her life caring for, would be torn away from her, as well as the only friend she'd made in her entire lifetime. Rebekah scoffed as Marcel suddenly entered the compound, standing beside Hayley and Kaiden as the blonde narrowed her eyes at him.

"What the hell are you doing here? You come to gloat?" Rebekah snapped viciously, a cold look in her eyes as she stared at the man that had broke her heart. Marcel shook his head, sparing a sympathetic look at the Mikaelson family, "no, I came here to make sure this works," the vampire responded easily, causing Rebekah to shake her head, turning her gaze back towards the floor.

"Elijah, I need you right there at the top," Vincent continued to direct, moving the eldest Mikaelson brother into position. Once stood in place, Elijah looked back towards Hayley longingly. He knew she wouldn't go with him; she couldn't. Her place was here, with her family; and as much as they both loved each other deeply, now just wasn't their time. Maybe one day it could be, but for now the two had to go their separate ways.
