When you said sorry to me
That night,
Something inside me snapped.
I never liked being
At a loss for words.
But you made me forget
Speech for a moment.
My brain wasn't prepared
To reply to a word
So foreign to it.
You gave it to me so easily,
Like you really cared.
"Why would he?"
My subconscious said.
It was not your fault darlin'
That they never gave me
The remorse I deserved.
No. Not even scraps of it.
So when you said it out,
It was not your fault
That everything in me repelled it.
It was not your fault
That instinct shouted at me
To run away,
While my heart still stayed.
It was not your fault
That I fell for you.
