Chapter 9: The Badge and The Burden Part 1

(Alex dream POV)

I was running with mommy crying as we ran to her bedroom. I can't believe Mark died. He was my big brother. I could hear grunts, something being scratched and roars over my sobbing. We finally reached my mom and dad's bedroom and were safe from the monsters. "Get under the bed cupcake." My mom said. I did as she said and hid. After I got under I looked up to see my mom grabbed her blaster. "Mom?" I asked.

She came over and put my head back under her bed. "Stay here okay. Me and dad will be fine." Mom said to me. I was about to respond when I heard a scream coming downstairs. "See you on the other side." Mom says. She then runs to the door and opens it. Once she left the room she blasted something then closed the door to hide me. I began to cry as I heard the fight get louder.

I then heard someone speaking, but it was quiet and then it got louder. "Alex?" What? "Alex." Who is saying that? "Alex!"

I opened my eyes to see Ruby shaking me. "Alex calm down." Ruby said quietly. I looked to find the others asleep and then I looked at Ruby with a sorrowful look on her face. "Ru-uby? What happened?" I asked a bit tired. "You fell asleep working on these blueprints." Ruby said holding blueprints for something I was going to add for my BO-Staff. "You woke me up crying in your sleep. Are you okay?" Ruby asked. "I'm fine, I just had a nightmare." I said.

Ruby then hugged me from the side and whispered into my ear. "I'm sorry to hear that. Do you want me to sleep with you? Like you used to do for me during our slumber parties when I had a nightmare?" Ruby asked. I don't usually do stuff like that with her anymore, but I feel like I really need that. "Sure." I said. Ruby then got under the covers and closed her eyes trying to go to sleep.

I tried to close my eyes and go to sleep, but I had my eyes open questioning why I dreamt that old memory. I don't like to remember that day, but why did I remember that time. Why now? I knew it was pointless to ask questions I didn't know the answers to, but I can't stop wondering.

XXX Time Skip XXX

Ruby and I were the first ones up so we got dressed and woke the others up so we could start up with the day. We woke up Yang and Blake who got dressed up and all we only had to wake up Weiss. Weiss was sleeping in her bed probably having a nice dream. Ruby got out a whistle and got in front of her face about to wake her up. Ruby then blew into the whistle waking up Weiss and made her fall out of bed. I chuckled as I came over to stand next to Ruby. "I wish I recorded that." I said with a smile on my face.

"Good morning, team RWBAY!" Ruby screams. "What in the world is wrong with you?" Weiss asked, still on the floor. Ruby ignores Weiss' question and continues to speak. "Now that you're awake, we can officially begin our first order of business." Weiss gets up and brushes herself off looking at Ruby. "Excuse me?" She then sees Yang holding a collection of objects - pillows, pamphlets, a candle-holder - in her arms standing next to Blake. "Decorating!" Yang said.

"What?!" Weiss asked. Blake lifts her suitcase filled with her stuff still. "We still have to unpack." Blake said. The suitcase then opens, spilling all its contents on the floor. "And clean apparently." I said. Weiss does not look enthusiastic, especially when Ruby knocks her back again with the blow of her whistle. "Aaaalright! Weiss, Blake, Yang, Alex, and their fearless leader Ruby have begun their first mission!" Ruby screamed before she raised her arm in the air and then screams. "Banzai!" Yang, Blake, and I raise one of our arms in the air doing the same as Ruby. "Banzai!" The four of us scream. We turn at an angle as Weiss lays on the floor and sighs.
