As the started coming to a close, most of the people had already headed home. Only a small group of us remained sitting around a bright bonfire. I sat next to Riddian on a two person bench while Enzo, Nova, Carmen, Lillith, and Wren were in their own lawn chairs.
Enzo was telling a story on how he got this house and what he and his wife went through to afford it. It was a really inspiring story, but ended in heartbreak. His wife died two years ago from an incurable illness. He must have been really lonely, but he never showed it. I admired how optimistic he tried to be. "Just keep moving forward." Is how he described his motto.
Eventually the alcohol that was looking my system started to fade, which made my eyes feel very heavy. Sleep sounded amazing but I didn't want the party to end just yet. I stared at the flames as they danced around each other and the embers crackled softly. Through the fire I noticed Nova across from me staring at me. She was watching me seductively and started gently tracing the tops of her breasts with her finger tips. I couldn't help but bite my lip as I watched her. She was so incredibly sexy and obviously she wanted my attention. This wasn't really the time or place though, what was she thinking?
"What are you waiting for?" Riddian asked me quietly so the others didn't hear. They were in the middle of their own conversation.
I glanced between the both of them in panic. I didn't know he was watching her seduce me, and I was very embarrassed. I knew I was dating them both, but that didn't mean I should flaunt myself around them right? I didn't want jealousy to start.
"Even I think that's hot." He chuckled.
My cheeks flushed and with those words of approval I got up and plopped myself down in Nova's lap. I grabbed her face and kissed her passionately with tongue. I pulled away before it got too intense though. No PDA here, no sir.
"So now that things have calmed down, can we talk about Carmen and her badass lightning?" said Riddian playfully.
"Hell yes, that was amazing!" chimed in Wren.
"I thought was gonna seriously murder you guys." Lillith admitted.
"Wait, you always jump in to protect Riddian. How come you didn't this time?" I asked amused.
Lillith shrugged, "I don't hurt kids", and took a swig of her beer.
"I wasn't going to kill them, jeeze." Carmen rolled her eyes. "I still think your triple relationship is super weird, but hey. Nova has never been normal."
"Brat!" Nova threw her empty cup at Carmen while laughing.
The girls and I got back to the royal mansion pretty late. Luckily everyone was sleeping and we didn't have to confess why we were just then getting home. Naturally, I was going to sleep in Nova's room that night.
I was still pretty exhausted, but that didn't stop Nova from stripping us both down and rolling around under the sheets with me. Our bodies pressed together like two soft and sweaty puzzle pieces. She latched her legs around me and we mad out as her hands explored my body all over. This was the first time Nova and I were intimate since our fight about Riddian. I was so happy to know things could still be normal between us.
The next day started off as normal as always. Nova and I ate breakfast downstairs and were planning on going for a horseback ride with Carmen, when we were summoned.
"Your majesty would like to meet with you both." Cal announced to us as I was pouring my second cup of coffee. Caffeine had always helped me when I had a hangover.
"Both os us?" I asked with uncertainty. Cal nodded. Nova shrugged and I had to leave my coffee on the counter while I followed her to her mother's study.
Nova nocked on the door once softly before we heard the queen say, "come in" from inside.
Selene was standing at the bookshelf with a book in hand, sifting through the pages. Her long dark hair was pulled back into a classy tight bun and a white collared shirt loosely hung from her shoulders paired with a black pencil skirt.
"Take a seat ladies." She said without looking at us. We both quietly sat in the two lounge chairs in the room and waiting patiently for the queen to speak.
She closed the book she was holding and placed it back into the empty spot on the shelf before finding the perfect place to stand right in front of us with her arms crossed. Leaning against the desk behind her, she let out a soft sigh.
"Please tell me why you have been fraternizing with Dark sprites?"
Nova spoke first. "Well I don't know what you mean by 'fraternizing', but you agreed to be open to the idea of working with the rebel sprites remember?"
"You call dressing like a harlot with your sister and coming home after midnight work?" Selene squinted her eyes at Nova, testing her to lie.
"With all due respect, the rebel sprites are our friends. I think growing our relationship with them would only secure our alliance." I told her while clasping my hands together and placing them in my lap. It was taking all I had not to nervously fidget.
"I find it hard to believe spending time with those...barbarians is fun to anyone." Selene's voice was dripping with discrimination.
"Stop!" Bursted Nova. "You have no idea what you're talking about. I know what it takes to move our people forward and live in peace. Your prejudices don't help anyone and I'd appreciate it if you would refrain from talking like that about them in front of me." She was standing was to face with her mother now and the atmosphere was so intense I was afraid to make a sound.
The queen dropped her arms to her sides and stared back at Nova for a long time before saying anything. She looked angry and I was just waiting for her to explode.
"You are young and naive Novalina."
"Maybe, but I will be a better queen than anyone ever has. When are you going to step down and let me do my job?" Nova's face was fierce and I was so grateful to witness that moment in history. Nova was staking her claim to the throne. Question was, would the queen finally give it up?
