Sometimes Kokichi would cry.
It wasn't abnormal. After the Killing Game, seeing your friends die; and even dying yourself, you would cry too.
When Kokichi would cry Shuichi immediately got into action-- just like he always did. Usually things like this happened at night when Oma had night terrors. The retired Ultimate Detective would suddenly snap awake-- see the issue-- and do whatever it took to fix it. He didn't need to ask what was wrong because as Kokichi's boyfriend he already knew.
"It's okay." Shuichi would tell him with a soft hush, wrapping an arm gently around Kokichi, then petting his purple locks as he lovingly spoke words in the other one's ear. "I'm here." He assured his promise quietly. Seeing his lover suffer from PTSD hurt him because he felt like only Kokichi could really understand what it felt like not being able to let go of something-- and that something holding onto you forever until it ate you from the inside out.
But that didn't mean he didn't want to be there for Kokichi, either.
"Saihara-chan," Kokichi would reply in a trembling tone, holding tightly onto the arm wrapped around him after he finished screaming in terror and could wake up completely back into his senses. Enough to simply cry into the pillow. "I-It was dark and I was--" His breath was rapidly increased as the vivid flashbacks still raged inside his brain. He choked on tears and tried not to hyperventilate.
"You're not in the press anymore.." Shuichi promised him, hugging Kokichi tighter. "You're alive , and I'm right here with you." How this crushed Shuichi's heart seeing the other like this. It made the blue-headed male want to hold Kokichi forever, in a place no one could hurt either one of them again, keeping Oma safe and with him for eternity. Saihara would never let anything happen to the boy in his arms ever again.
Shuichi scooped up shaky and quietly sobbing Kokichi, sliding his arm under his knees and picked him up bridel style on the bed. His boyfriend really didn't weight that much, and so, carrying him was an easy task. Though it wasn't much of a task because Shuichi never minded holding Oma.
He got up, causing Kokichi to grip tightly onto Shuichi's sleep shirt. Shuichi kissed the top of his violet head and carried him out of the room; holding the smaller close. Shuichi gently bumped the bedroom door open with his shoulder and carried Kokichi out. There, he walked down the dark hallway through the house they lived in together. Shuichi could see fine. He was good at seeing things in the dark. He had practice observing things carefully in the past.
"Wrap your legs around my waist, kay?" Shuichi murmured calmly in Kokichi's ear. When they were in a more mobile position (With Kokichi's legs and arms around Shuichi with his chin resting on his shoulder), Shuichi walked around the hallways for awhile, hushing him quietly in Kokichi's hair while he held him. Like a mother walking her child.
Shuichi went into the kitchen and took something from the fridge and grabbed a can of Kokichi's favorite soda and walked to the living room and sat down on the couch. He set Kokichi down, which was hard because Oma was persistent on holding on, but Shuichi smiled softly at him and gently pulled off his grip, though kept one hand intertwined with Kokichi's as Shuichi leaned over towards the coffee table and grabbed the remote and put the soda on the table.
"Let's see," Shuichi started, leaning back into the couch and pulling Kokichi to his chest, the purple-headed boy snuggled up close to him. "Brooklyn 99 , season three , episode...eight-- oh, nine." Shuichi said quietly, turning on the TV and scrolling through cable to find their show they recorded. "Mhm..." He hummed as he rubbed Kokichi's arm lovingly, pulling him closer. Kokichi wrapped his arms around Shuichi's torso and rested his head against his lover's chest. They had been rewatching the TV series since it had two aspects both boys liked: detective work with comedy.
After awhile into the show, Shuichi smiled because he heard a small noise from Kokichi like he almost laughed. He ran his fingers through his boyfriend's hair and felt relieved seeing the other calm down. Kokichi still had small tearstains on his face, but his heartbeat which Shuichi could feel, was at a more normal pace. But most importantly Kokichi stopped sobbing and felt safe.
And that's all Shuichi needed to do to feel okay. Was to know that the most important precious person in his life, wasn't crying.

Shuichi and Kokichi stayed like that all night. Even after Kokichi was calmed down, he didn't fall asleep, and instead experienced a sugar rush from drinking caffeine at four in the morning and watching TV. Sorry Shuichi...
