AU: Highschool!AU / RedString!AU
Idea by: @Ray-Fox-Wolf

So I was gonna write this entire little thing before the one shot in Morse code but then I remembered that if you're on mobile you can't copy-paste text I think (or at least I can't figure out how to) so I'm saving you all the time and energy

P.S. I'm not gonna bother explaining what the RedString!AU thing is because I'm pretty sure everyone already knows. ((If you don't then just comment and I'll tell you though))

"Alright class, your homework for tonight is going to be..."

Patton leaned back in his chair as he listened to his math teacher talk in class. He sighed gently, crossing his arms in front of him.

He was bored. Again. Only a couple more minutes though, and hopefully he'll be able to get to lunch quick.

He started absent-mindedly pulling at his soulmate string. He always got pulls back, and he figured out a while ago it was in the same exact way, every time. His soulmate would pull it quickly four times, wait, quickly again once, wait, quickly, slowly... and then eventually it would repeat after a lot of pulls. Patton had no idea what it could mean.

"Okay class, off you go."

Patton quickly packed up his stuff and ran to lunch to meet his best friend, Virgil, who was already at their normal lunch table.

Patton's mind was caught on his string and he sat down with a confused expression.

"What's up, Pat?" Virgil asked, leaning his elbow on the table.

"Huh? Oh, nothing. Just thinking."

"You look pissed."

"I'm not- I mean, I'm just... confused. My soulmate keeps tugging my string in a specific order every single time I pull, and I have no idea what it could mean! And it's been happening for a really long time now!"

Virgil raised an eyebrow, staring at his dumb-founded best friend.

"Pat... you realize he might be trying to use Morse code to say something, right?"

"Wait, what?"

Logan furrowed his eyebrows as he twisted his soulmate string in his fingers.

"Maybe he just doesn't realize it's Morse code?" His friend Roman offered, who was sitting beside him at their lunch table.

"Obviously. He keeps sending me Es and sometimes Ts, which are the letters corresponding to one dot and one dash respectively."

Logan felt another tug of an E at his finger, and he sighed.

"Some day... I suppose I'll just have to keep trying for now." He mumbled.

Logan pulled on the string the same way he had been doing for years. He had Morse code memorized, but at this point this specific phrase was burned into his brain.

He pulled until he had completed the phrase:
.... . .-.. —- ..—.. , which meant "Hello?"

Logan sighed as he got another E back.

...Two dots. Three. Four. That's not an E, that's an H.

"Hold on, he's responding!" Logan said excitedly.

"Sweet!" Roman exclaimed, scooting closer to his friend.

Slowly but surely, Logan got more pulls. Very slowly.
