Chapter 30: Fun Times

Calista turned her attention to the entrance, watching the girls that were out dress shopping returning after so long. She watched Cana's face light up at the sight of her father, jogging towards him as he stood up and offered her a hug. Calista smiled at the two, a bit of sadness present in her eyes. Laxus didn't fail to notice this though. He pulled her away gently by her hand. They sat up on the S-Class floor.

"You alright, Snowflake?" Laxus asked, rubbing circles on her back. She sighed.

"Yes." She felt him stop. "Okay, no, I'm not." She looked into his eyes. "Promise you won't make fun of me?" He nodded. "I just, I wish I got to know my parents. When I met Gildarts, it was an odd encounter, really. I was only six, a year after Cherion's disappearance... and some older men thought it would be fun to try and kidnap me. I was able to hold my own but then Gildarts found me and fought the rest. He was impressed by my strength, and insisted on keeping me company, walking me back to my shelter I had set up for the night. I ran into him multiple times throughout the years. When I was 10, it was the last time I had seen him and I challenged him to a fight. Of course, he won and ended up telling me about Fairy Tail after keeping it from me for so long. I was amazed at his offer and decided to tell him about my journey. He told me that it was a long ways away, and that he had his quest to finish or else he would've taken me to you guys. So I followed his direction and continued my way here. He slowly slipped from my memory." She said. Laxus nodded.

"I never got to know my mother, my dad was a different story and now he's dead to me. But at least I had one parent in the important years of my life." Laxus said. Calista subconsciously played with her necklace around her neck while staring at the wall. "Y'know, I don't think I've ever seen you without that necklace on." Laxus pointed out. Calista looked back at him.

"I've had it ever since I can remember. Cherion told me I was wearing it when he found me. I just assume that it came from my parents. I only have this picture of them." Calista opened the small snowflake, Laxus determining it was a locket, and watched as she unfolded a small piece of paper. She studied the picture of her parents, and showed it to him. Calista was the spitting image of her mother, the same face shape and long, wavy, brown hair. She had her father's emerald eyes, sharing the same skin tone as the both of them. She folded the picture back up and put it back in the locket, snapping it shut.

"If it helps, you look exactly like your mother, and you have your father's eyes." He spoke softly.

"Cherion told me the same thing when he saw the picture all those years ago. For those four years Gildarts was around, he just felt like an uncle or something. But then I guess when he left to finish his quest, a year later, was when you guys had gone to Tenroujima." She thought aloud. Laxus nodded again, a thought popping into his head.

"Back already?" A younger Laxus asked sarcastically. The older man smirked.

"I would've been back earlier but I ran into a young girl and decided to keep an eye out for her for a bit. That and some complications involving my quest." He responded.

"A young girl? What importance does she hold?" The dragon slayer scoffed.

"She impressed me with her power. Ten year old challenged me to a battle." Gildarts said.

"Is she mentally-ill or something?" The blonde asked, astonished.

"No, she has guts. She also told me it's her dream to join this guild, so you'll get to see her for yourself. She's an ice dragon slayer." The man responded.

"Doubt she's as much as you say." Laxus smirked.

"Careful Laxus," Gildarts warned, "Your ego is showing. I'll bet she'll be the one to change that." And the older man stalked off in search of the guild master.
