KATE STILL BUZZED with anger.
She hadn't been able to shake the feeling. Her still blood seemed to boil, her mouth dry. After getting to the station, she assumed that she would've dropped it, trying to make herself more helpful considering Jonathan had just gotten arrested, but she couldn't.
She was still too focused on what she had said to Steve.
"Do you think we'll be out of here soon?" Nancy asked Flo as she took some ice out of the fridge. Kate had offered to go and get it, but she had promptly refused, wanting to help the two kids out.
"You, yes. Him, no. He assaulted a police officer," the woman replied. She looked at Kate. "I wouldn't be surprised if you got stuck here, too."
Kate sighed exasperatedly as Nancy continued to question the secretary. "Well, how long are you gonna keep him?"
"You and your boyfriend have big plans, do you?" Flo asked.
Kate stifled a laugh—Nancy wished she had big plans with Jonathan. "He's not my boyfriend."
"I think you better tell him that."
"What?"
"Only love makes you that crazy, sweetheart," Flo said, handing Nancy the ice. "And that damn stupid."
