15 ~ Death Punishment

Seoyun was called to the Court of Hell, which is the Court of Underworld. Where all official and important decisions are taken by the Judges of Hell.
Seoyun was confused, why did they order her presence.

When she opened those huge doors and entered in the Court, she found herself standing next to MinJun.

"Ms Seoyun, MinJun has reported a case to us. Are you involved in it?" The Judge asked.

"I have no idea what you are talking about, my Lord!" She said with her head down.

"Are you involved in any illegal activities here in the Underworld?" He asked again.

"I would never betray you, my Lord!" Seoyun said "but I'm afraid the Ferryman had found Lord Taehyung... And she's hiding him in the Mortal World."

"Tell me whatever you know!" He ordered.

She told the Judge about y/n and how she's being suspicious about y/n's behaviour.

"I tried warning her several times, my Lord. But I think I'm sure by now, she is definitely hiding Lord Taehyung." Seoyun said.

"Sorry to interrupt, my Lord!" MinJun said "but a few days ago, when MalChin caught y/n with Lord Taehyung, she clearly told us now to spill it."

"I will start the investigation on her and MalChin!" The Judge said "you both can go back to your respective duties!"

They both bowed their heads to the Judge and left the Court. But seoyun was still confused, why did MinJun report MalChin.

"MinJun, why did you report your own work partner?" She asked.

"He's been stealing souls, Seoyun!" He said and she gasped.

"What!?? Are you serious? He's the one behind that?"

"Yes, seoyun!" He said "I never imagined he'd do something like this."

"I can understand your pain, MinJun. You both have been such good friends, just like me and y/n. But we can't deceive the Judges!" She said "what are they gonna do now?"

"They've captured him..."

"Already??" Seoyun asked.

"Yes... And now they'll be looking for y/n..."

As they both were talking while walking, they reached seoyun's bridge. Y/n was back in the underworld and she smiled as soon as she notice her friend seoyun.

"She's here! I should report the guards!" MinJun said and ran towards the Court of Hell. No matter how much seoyun wanted to stop him, she just couldn't. It's not just any crime but a sin in the Underworld. And Taehyung was already receiving his punishment for committing to a sin.

This was the first time when she saw  y/n and instead of smile, there were tears in her eyes.

"What's wrong, seoyun?!" Y/n asked when she reached her. "You must be really tired and stressed. Please, take a break from all this work!"

Seoyun wiped her tears, somehow controlled herself and said "I'll be fine.."

"Y/N, the Ferryman!" They heard a loud voice and when they turned back, they found themselves surrounded by guards and  the Judge. To their surprise, the guards were holding MalChin, who's hands were sealed in chains. "You have committed to a major sin along with MalChin, the ghost impermanence. Surrender now!"

"My lord, what have I done?" She kneeled down and asked in terror.

"You have Taehyung hidden from the underworld!" The Judge said.

Y/n was shocked to hear this, how did they even find out? That was all she could think about. Her body was filled with fear, her legs were so weak now that she almost fell while standing up. She knows exactly what's going to happen now. Everyone knows it. She will be killed. There's no mercy for such crimes in the Underworld.
The guards captured her and chained her hands.

They were about to take her for punishment but MinJun came back and stopped them.

"Before you take them away, My Lord! I want to talk personally about this with MalChin." MinJun made a humble request and the Judge gave him the permission to talk while the guards would still be around. He wanted to know why did his partner in work betrayed.

"Why did you do this!" MinJun asked him. "What was the reason!?"

"The reason, you wanna know?" MalChin said with an evil look in his eyes and MinJun gulped. "I drank the water from the river and recalled my memories. Taemin gave my memories back to me!"

"Is this reason enough?" MinJun said "this doesn't explain why you betrayed!"

"Enough? Yes! This is enough!" You are the guy I hated my whole life when I was alive and human!!" MalChin said. "You even stole my first love..."

MalChin and MinJun were friends, childhood buddies. Both of their parents wanted them to join the Royal Army of their small kingdom and serve the King. As they both grew up and became young adults, MinJun passed the Royal Examination and got selected. Meanwhile, MalChin was left alone and unemployed. He was never as intelligent as MinJun and ever since that day he was victimized.

After a few years, MinJun returned back to the village. And the girl MalChin loved since childhood, married MinJun.
His heart was broken, he couldn't take this humiliation any more and ran away somewhere far, far away from the village.

Years passed away and one night MinJun was reported a robbery in the Royal Castle. MinJun was the Commander of the Army now. On the day the robber was supposed to be given the death punishment, MinJun found out that the robber is his old friend who ran away.

He asked the same question before killing him that day "Why did you do this, old friend...?"
