A few days later...

I finally got discharged. Dad drove us home and we were met with Grandma, Harry and Lauren. They gave me a card and flowers. They couldn't stay long because Lauren needed to get back to college.

"Love you Sam. Hope to see you again soon." Lauren said.

"Love you too."

Lauren and I hugged and then she got in the car. Grandma hugged me next and then Harry.

"Don't be going back to the hospital anytime soon." Harry joked.

I laughed. "Not planning on it."

Harry hugged me and also made his way to the car. Dad and I waved as they drove off.

When we got inside, Duke was barking.

"I know boy. I'm finally home."

I picked him up and kissed his head before setting him back down.

"Why don't you go rest on the couch. I got some work I need to get done." Dad said.

I nodded. "K."

Dad kissed my forehead before heading upstairs. I made my way into the living room and laid down on the couch. Duke came and sat up on my lap. I turned on friends and watched a few episodes before my eyes started to feel heavy.

I woke up to the sound of dad and Calum talking.

"When does she have her first visit?" Calum asked.

Dad sighed. "It's coming up in 2 weeks."

I guess they were talking about my visit with mom.

"Do you think Sam's ready for it?" Calum asked.

"I don't know. I'm not going to not let the visit happen. I'm just not too excited for it."

I rubbed my eyes before going into the kitchen. Dad saw me and made his way over to me.

"Was your nap good?" He asked.

I nodded and let him hug me.

"I need to talk to you about something." Dad said.

"Is it about mom?"

Dad looked at me. "How do you know?"

"I over heard you guys talking."

Dad nodded and sighed. "Yeah, it's about mom."

Dad led me to sit at the table with him and Calum. Dad sat across from me and Calum sat next to me.

"So her first visit is coming up in two weeks. How do you feel about that?" Dad asked.

I shrugged and picked at my fingers. "I don't know."

Calum took my hand and gave it a squeeze. "Tell us how you feel sweetheart." Calum said calmly.

I nodded and took a breath. "I'm just a little nervous."

Dad nodded. "That's perfectly ok honey. You went through some stressful things at Mom's."

"Do I have to have these visits?" I asked.

"No honey. But can you just do this one. Tell her how you really feel."

I thought for a moment before nodding. "Fine."

Dad nodded. "Ok."

Two weeks flew by and it was the day I was going to see Mom for the first time in a while. I was anxious and felt kind of sick to my stomach.

"We'll be in the living room so we'll be able to hear what's going on." Dad said.

I nodded.

We waited around until about 12 when we heard the door bell. My stomach was in knots.

Calum kissed my head. "Everything is going to be ok baby."

I nodded. Wanting to believe his words.

I heard the door open and I looked up from the table to see Mom. She looked a little rough. Black under eye circles. Her brown hair was slightly messy. She was wearing a baggy t-shirt and leggings. She didn't look like the mom I used to know.

She made her way over to the table and I stood up. She reached out and I let her hug me. I wrapped my arms around to be polite.

"It's good to see you baby." She said.

I nodded. Cringing at the nickname coming from her mouth.

We both sat down with her across from me. I could see dad and Calum sit down on the couch.

Mom looked to her hands before back to me. "I miss seeing you honey. How are you doing?"

I shrugged. "I'm ok."

Mom nodded. "Have you done anything exciting lately?"

"Yeah, we went to Disney."

Mom nodded. "That's cool."

I nodded. This was really awkward. I didn't really know what to talk about.

"How's Matt?" I asked, picking at my fingers.

"He's good. Getting out of rehab soon. We're still going strong. Still planning on getting married."

I felt my stomach turn. They were still going to get married. After everything that happened.

"What?"

Mom nodded. "Yes, were still getting married. I love Matt and he loves me."

I felt my blood pressure rise.

"AFTER ALL THE SHIT HE DID. YOU'RE STILL MARRYING HIM." I shouted.

Dad and Calum got up and started to come in. Concerned at the tone of my voice.

"Yes. I love him."

"You're unbelievable. I never want to see you again."

I got up and ran up the stairs. Nobody tried to stop me. I ran to my room and slammed the door closed. I fell on my bed and started to sob into my pillow.

I heard talking downstairs and the front door close. Nobody came upstairs and I was greatful for that. I needed to be alone.

After I calmed down, I was alone for a little while before dad came upstairs to check on me. He pulled me into his lap and I laid my head on his shoulder.

"I don't want to see her again."

Dad nodded. "Ok honey."

He kissed my forehead. And we stayed  in that position for awhile. Dad rubbed my back and I cried into his shirt, letting out all my emotions.

I was so greatful to have a dad like my dad in that moment. I don't know what I would do without him.
