Okay this is a (sort of) song fic for the song Greensleeves! I know I interpreted the song differently but I'm doing it purely based off the lyrics 🤗

Also, I'm using Karliene's version of it so that's why the lyrics might seem slightly different 🙃

I'm not used to doing song fics so forgive me if it's not the best 😅

WARNINGS: Mental asylum, torture, bad conditions, pretty much everything in an 1800s insane asylum tbh

Alas my love you do me wrong
To cast me off discourteously
For I have loved you well and long
Delighting in your company

Screams of insanity echoed throughout the building, people clawed at themselves and at the walls, wishing to be free, whether it be from this place or the voices in their head, you could not tell. They would never be free. None of you would. The nurses didn't help, neither did the doctors. All of the patients were helpless in the one place where they were supposed to be helped. If one wasn't insane when admitted, they were sure to be after sometime in the wretched hospital.

Having been there for some time now, 7 months to be exact, you were able to tune out all of the ungodly sounds around you. Curled up in the corner of your cell, trying to retain some of your warmth, you escaped to your thoughts.

Why were you here? Upon your arrival, you were sane, lucid, and in perfect health, so how did you get put in a Mental Institution?

You don't know why that question continuously plagued your mind, you knew the answer. It was your husband. He was the one to put you there.

At the beginning of your relationship, it was perfect. Having grown up in a noble family like him, you had loved him for a long time and that feeling was mutual, both of you loved spending time with each other. But as time went on, something began to corrupt him, what you did not know.

He began pushing you away, becoming more greedy with every passing day. Next thing you knew he casted you off entirely. He sent you to a sanatorium, telling everyone that you were delirious and were seeing things that no-one else could. You weren't.

No one believed you, of course. They said that you were in denial and that you didn't want to believe that you were 'sick'.

What went wrong? What wrongs have you done to deserve this?

Greensleeves was all my joy
Greensleeves was my delight
Greensleeves was my heart of joy
And who but my lady Greensleeves

You used to adorn lavish dresses that would make anyone turn green with envy. They were the same color as that of freshly cut grass, and with clear jewels to match. A dirty and torn white hospital gown is now what you wore.

Oh how you missed your old dresses, the comfort of your home, and just the feeling of being happy. That feeling was a long lost thought to you now. Nothing more than a mere memory.

They didn't feed you. At least not very often or in amounts that would supply you enough energy to do anything. Just enough to keep you alive. There were so many inhabitants in this place of insanity, they had to make sure they had enough to feed everyone. This left you, and many others, extremely malnourished. Nothing but skin and bones.

A feeling of dread washed over you as you were pulled from your thoughts when one of the doctors entered your cell. You curled into yourself more as if that would hide you from the sights of this man.

You didn't know his name. In fact, you knew nobody's name here. They knew yours and that's all that mattered.

Two nurses followed the man inside and went over to your shivering form. They pried you off the ground, not that it took much work given your weak state. The two women then tied your hands together, and escorted you into the hall, the doctor leading the way.
