i was dreading this day for the past two weeks and it's sadly here
"cmon luke wake up" i said
"what time is it?" he asked
"it's 6 we are supposed to be there at 7:30" i took the covers off
"ok is lottie here?" he asked
"yea she's downstairs with samantha" i said
"ok let me put jeans and a shirt on" he said
"ok i'll go make some coffee" i left the room
i woke emma up and got her dressed and made her breakfast
"is the coffee ready?" luke came downstairs
"yes" i handed him a cup
"is emma ready?" he asked
"yes she has everything" i frowned
"it's going to be ok" he kissed my forehead
"i hope so" i drank my coffee
luke drove to the courthouse and we made it there 30 minutes early, emma's parents were there
"charles?" i asked
"hey kelsey" he smiled
"what are you doing here?" i asked
"came to get my daughter back!" he said
"emma's your daughter?" i said
"mommy who is he?"
"no one sweetie" i said
"i mean do you remember lexi?" charles said
"she's the mom?" i said
"yes" he said
"but emma is four and we dated like 3 years ago" i said
"she got pregnant at 15" he said
"disgusting that you fucked a minor" i said
"see you later when i get my daughter back" he backed away
i walked to luke and emma
"what is charles doing here?" luke asked
"he's emma's dad!" i said
luke was shocked, it was time. me and luke and emma went into the courthouse
"ok are we all here?"
"yes"
"ok let's get settled"
"so why are we here today?" the judge asked
"we're here to get our daughter back" charles said
"you guys gave her up for adoption!" i shot back
"mrs.hemmings it's not your time to speak"
charles went on and on about how they should get their daughter back. it was finally me and luke's turn
"your honor, charles melton and lexi johnson gave up emma hemmings for adoption, they didn't want her, but me and my husband luke took emma in and loved her like our own! me and my husband went through a process to take emma home and adopt her. emma is four years old let me remind you again but lexi johnson is 19 and charles melton is 29 obviously charles melton had something with a minor 4 years ago" i explained
the session went on for a few hours until they finally made a decision
"i've made my decision" the judge said
we all stayed quiet, luke held my hand
"emma willfully belongs to kelsey and luke hemmings"
i let go of luke's hand and i cover my face with my hands and cry into them, i was crying tears of happiness
"congratulations mrs and mr hemmings"
"thank you" luke said
i cried for a good 5 minutes into luke's chest
i was about to leave until charles and lexi were hugging one another
"sorry charles and lexi" i frowned
"it's fine just please make emma very happy" charles smiled
"i will, now will you excuse me" i walked away
"see you later kels" charles said
