Min-kyung stared at the party flyer, contemplating if she'd made the right choice. "Stop, you are going to that party, and you are going to look great." Seo-Young took the paper and put it back in her friend's bag. "As soon as you get home make sure to pick out a killer outfit." Min-kyung shrugged "I dunno...i just feel paranoid for some reason." Seo-Young lifted Min-kyung's chin and stared her in the eyes.
"listen, you're just nervous about your first party, not to mention it's a college party. But don't worry you'll be just fine." Seo-Young's uplifting words and soft smile made Min-kyung's fear subside. "You're right I'm just nervous, but exited nervous." "That's the spirit!" The girls high-fived and the bus stopped. A few students headed our the door. Seo-Young perked up "this is me, I'll see you later!" Min-Kyung smiled and waved goodbye.
When Min-kyung got home she needed a way to break the new of a party to her mom. She took a deep breath before strutting into the kitchen mimicking confidence. Her mother lowered her cup of coffee and cocked a brow. "What the hell? Why are you walking like that? It looks like you have to take the biggest shit of your life." He mother chuckled at her own comment.
Min-kyung cleared her throat and dusted her clothes of any nonexistent dirt. "Are you going to ask for something?" Min-Kyung let out a soft gasp "I- how did you know?" "I gave birth to you, I think I would know when my daughter wants something." Min-Kyung nodded "fair point." Her mother sat up, fixing her previous slouched posture "okay, hit me. What is it?"
Min-Kyung dug through her bag and pulled out the flyer "Um, so I kind of wanted to go to this party- I already turned in all my homework by the way." "Sure." Her mother deadpanned lifting her mug and taking another sip of coffee. "What? Really?" "Yeah, you're a senior now it's fine." Min-Kyung exclaimed, fist bumping the air "Yes! Thank you!" She squeezed her mom before dashing up to her room to pick her outfit.
Min-Kyung tapped her foot on the floor as she swiped past each item of clothing. "hmm" she hummed, quite not satisfied with her choices. What do people wear to pool parties anyway? She turned and layed on her bed, her head turning to face the clock. It was now four. Three hours until the party begins. Min-Kyung sighed, watching her ceiling turn repeatedly. "Min-Kyungie?"
Her mother called from the door frame. "Hey, mom." Min-Kyung replied. She crossed her arms and tsked "aren't you supposed to be picking an outfit for your party?" Min-Kyung sat up "yeah, but I don't have anything cute." Her mother placed a finger on her chin as she thought "well, what kind of party is it?" "A pool party.. " Min-Kyung replied in a higher tone. "Ooh~ next you're going to tell me it's a college party."
Min-kyung shrunk "Uh.. " Her mother chuckled "dang, okay you're going to need my help big time." Her mother signaled for her daughter to follow her and she led her to her bedroom. "I might a few things that could fit you, and you know your dad likes to buy me expensive dresses." Min-Kyung jumped happily, running to her mother's closet. "Patience dear."
Her mother slid the doors open and revealed multiple sparkly and shiny yet simple dresses. "let's see..." She dug through the dresses and picked out a few for Min-kyung to try on. "And we can't forget the batting suit." Min-kyung shook her head "no, I'm not going in the water. Imagine how crowded-" "You're not going to a pool party and not go in the pool that's lame." Min-Kyung pouted "fine, what do you have?"
Her mother smiled smugly before opening a drawer. "I have a few you might like.. " She pulled out a few tops and bottoms. Min-kyung snatched her face in disgust "no, I'm not wearing a two peice." "Come on Min-kyung, what if you meet your soulmate tonight?" Min-Kyung sighed as she picked up a pair that caught her fancy. "This one is kind of cute.."
She picked a dress and started changing, only to stop midway in embarrassment. "Can you not?" Her mother scoffed "I'm you're mom, it's nothing I haven't seen before." Min-Kyung shook her head "that was before, I'm going to change in my room." Her mother chuckled "whatever you say~" Min-Kyung put on the bathing suit and checked her appearance, an unexpected smile forming over her face.
She like it. She didn't expect to, but she genuinely though she looked decent. She slid the dress over the swim wear and proceeded to sit at her vanity. "What hairstyles so people wear to pools?" She said as she pulled her hair out of a ponytail. She was about to start de-tangling her hair when she heard her phone ping. Min-Kyung held her phone, the time flashing as she inputted her password: 6:40 pm
