"I'm tired"

she said, for the fourth time that day.

and maybe she was. dark circles began to show on her face. stress dragged her skin down. her glow was gone.

"I'm tired"

an innocent phrase most people will say thousands of times in their life.

but how many times is that actually what they mean? how many times do they just need to "sleep it off"?

"I'm tired"
he says, trudging home from his shitty part time job.

because god forbid men show any emotion, so they aren't dubbed a "queer". god forbid a male cry on another males shoulder, because "that shits gay".

"I'm tired"

but do you really just need some sleep?

or are you tired of fighting? tired of always being on the one-sided part of love? tired of your mom drinking? tired of your family shooting up?

tired of existing.

"I'm tired"

a phrase we use as an excuse now.

not the innocent phrase that would give us nap time and warm milk. not the innocent phrase that gave you cuddles and a warm bed.

for it's a cold, dark phrase.

and to some, the only way to stop saying "I'm tired" is to make yourself go to sleep for a long, long time.
