I've always said the bond between Steven and Amethyst is the only one on the show that's based on mutual love and trust. No ulterior motives. Just love and trust.
With Steven and Amethyst, you can tell there's love and trust there on both sides. Hell, they did a duet in the movie that was literally about the bond they have with each other.
Honestly, that's one of the biggest reasons I don't consider SUF Canon: They scrapped Steven and Amethyst's bond and it pissed me off so badly.
I don't care what anyone says: Steven would have talked to Amethyst first had they done things right.
If you have stuck with the show from the beginning, you'd see why Steven would open up to Ame and why she would be right there for him.
And if you think about it from how the series has gone, Steven would have opened up to Amethyst before anyone else.
