Terminology

Clan cats tend to have their own way of referring to things within their everyday lives which differs from the way other cats speak. These include the names of items, as well as various sayings and blessings.

Here is a list of common terminology (in no particular order):

-Molly- term for a cat who identities as female

-She-cat- another term for a cat who identities as female

-Tom- term for a cat who identities as male

-Tomkit- male kitten

-Mollykit- female kitten

-Gib- a term used to describe a neutered/spayed cat

-Nest- a term for bed

-Mossball- a game usually played by kits. A ball of moss is tossed around. Its similar to human soccer/football (however you want to call it)

-Shelltoss- similar to Mossball except a shell is used

-Follow the Crab- a game played by Oceanclan kits/apprentices where they chase and harass a hermit crab. Sometimes this leads to someome getting a paw/nose pinched

-Prey Sight-No Sight- a game just like redlight-greenlight where kits and apprentices practice stalking. One cat, called the "prey" cat calls out "no sight!" when the "prey" can't see, and the other players stalk forward towards the "prey" cat. The cat then says "prey sight!" at random and all the other cats have to freeze. If someone moves they lose the game and have to watch the rest until someone finally makes it up to "catch" the "prey" cat

-Bear brain- a saying which means a cat is acting brashly; someone who's thick headed; used as an insult

-Flighty bee- a cat who's always doing something/working

-Heartbeat- a second

-Whisker length- a unit of measurement, approximately an inch or 2

-Tail length- approximately a foot or 2

-Fox length- approximately 3-5 feet

-Bear length- approximately 10 feet

-Tree length- approximately 50 to 150 feet

-Sharing tongues- an activity where cats groom each other while talking and sharing news, stories, and the latest gossip. This activity happens most often at sunhigh and at mealtimes

-Kittypet- a house cat

-Rouge- A usually hostile cat who often does not have a permanent home, roams around, and does not care about crossing Clan boundaries. These cats sometimes travel in groups or families

-Loner- A usually peaceful cat who does not have a permanent home, rather they roam around. They almost always travel alone

-Nest head- a cat with messy, unkept fur

-Rabbit heart- an anxious cat; a cat that's easily frightened; a coward; can be used as an insult

-Culler- a poacher; a special type of Twoleg hunter who kills animals, mainly deer, during the off seasons. They also shoot cats for population control, as they are an invasive species

-Thunderbranch- a gun

-Thunderpath- a road or street

-Stick launcher- a bow ((and arrows are simply referred to as sticks))

-Monster- usually refers to a car but can be used as a general term to describe any motor vehicle

-Silverpelt- stars; a direct representation of Starclan. This is also another name for the spirit of Moon, the mother of cat and the ancients
