KIMIKO HANATE
I awake to the pure untainted darkness of my room, it was still just as I had left it last night. Glancing around my room for around a minute, I finally decide to get up in order slide open the curtains letting in the warming morning sunlight.
"tch."
I say to myself as I rapidly blink, it's been dark for so long that my eyes can barely withstand the morning sun.
My name is Kimiko Hanate...I'm the daughter of a nobleman and his wife. We live under the horrible rulers of the Empire and since my father works closely with the minister, our family often falls victim of people's hatred for the empire.
Because of all this hate, I've always been very easily scared and somewhat shy when it came to interacting with the outside world.
Sometimes however I feel like all of this is about to change...
~~~
Morning quickly passes by and after a boring day of doing absolutely nothing but waiting for the sun to leave the sky, I finally come to the realization that it was already 9:45 and that I had to return to my bedroom.
As I do every night, I await for my parents to wish me a good night while resting on my bed, but this time it seemed they were taking longer than usual to arrive in my room.
"Stella!" I yell out, and almost immediately my loyal maid opens the door to my room.
"What's wrong lady Kimiko?" She asks with a rather unenthusiastic tone. Being called upon this late at night clearly bothersome to her.
"Can you please check on my parents?" I ask. For some reason my voice carried a clear hint of fear in it, my heart was also very restless. It's almost as if my body is trying to tell me something bad is about to happen.
"Mister Ikuro and Miss Misaki are always very busy, but as you wish lady Kimiko. I shall see if they're alright." Stella mumbles in her sleepy tone before walking out of the room.
I then lay down on my bed and cover myself under my red blankets before finally falling asleep not bothering to go check on my parents by myself.
But that was not the end of my night.
Unexpectedly my consciousness returns, but the world before my eyes was nothing like my bedroom. Now a giant field of flowers surrounded by cherry blossoms and gorgeous trees extended as far as the eye can see, wind blew in my direction causing my long black hair to dance as I start walking up a large hill...a seemingly endless hill. Sounds of...screaming start to penetrate my ears as I get closer and closer to the top. It is then my walk slowly turns into a fast paced walk then into a desperate run up the hill.
As soon as I reach the top of the hill, my eyes witness the horrific sight of a village being consumed by flames. Villagers screaming as the flames of death burned them alive.
"W-What's happening!? SOMEONE HELP! HELP!" I yell but no one came to help me.
I run towards the village as fast as my legs could take me, but the path before me felt never-ending.
Standing at the heart of the village was a tall figure, dressed in red. His crimson overcoat extended all the way down to his knees, and the black armor he wore underneath only made him look more threatening. From my point of view I could only see the left side of his face, he looked like a young man but his expression was that of someone who has been through war itself. Slowly opening his eyes, the knight reveals their crimson red coloring.
The desperate screams rang in my ears as I approached him. But it is then that I finally wake up.
My eyes open, now back in the real world. To my surprise however, the screams were still there...
The painful screams suddenly stop just as my heartbeat begins to rapidly increase.
I recognized the screaming voice- poor Stella it's all my fault.
Voices of two women start echoing from outside my room.
"No! No, no, no!" I scream internally as the door to my room starts to be forced open. Aware of the incoming danger I lay back down and pretend to be asleep.
"Hey Akame, should we kill her? She hasn't done anything." An unfamiliar female voice asks.
"That's what the boss said." A more cold and emotionless female voice states casually, I'm guessing the girl's name is Akame. They slowly walk over to my bed.
"I'm sorry, but this is what must be done."
The more emotionless girl, Akame, says as she held her weapon over me.
I open my eyes at the last instant only to then roll off my bed, barely evading Akame's blade. I then quickly attempt to run out the door, but a young girl with long pink hair and pink eyes closes it before I can even get close to it.
"I'm sorry, but we can't let you escape now that you've seen our faces." The mysterious pink-haired girl says as she reloads her strange rifle looking weapon.
"Finish her Mein."
Akame's voice comes from the darkness, I turn around only to face her fearsome red eyes...red eyes all too similar to those of the man in my dreams.
I couldn't take it anymore of this...and so I drop to my knees then await for certain death.
"I wasn't really happy anyways...why do I need to even live anymore?"
I think to myself as I lower my head, surprisingly I didn't feel any tears, I didn't even feel afraid.
"Go ahead, I don't care anymore." I blankly say as the pink-haired girl lifts her rifle and takes aim, her name is Mein I believe.
The heat of her gun hovers over my head as she prepared to shoot.
"Here it goes." Mein says with a hesitant tone.
"I lived a good life." I mumble to myself as I feel the heat get warmer, here it comes...
