Chapter Fourteen

It's Official

"It feels like you've been avoiding me, Gina! What's going on?"

Gina chuckled and leaned back in her chair. It was lunch, the day after she unoffically became the basketball team's manager. And Saki claimed that she had missed Gina, due not seeing her after school as often because of her practice and Gina watching her friend's basketball matches. So, Saki was using their temporary break to catch up with every minute detail she'd missed out on.

"Ah, a bit of basketball, that's what's going on," Gina said.

"Basketball?" Saki sighed and slumped back in her chair. She looked at Gina with a roll of her eyes. "Sheesh. I'm starting to think you prefer their company over mine."

Gina pushed her friend lightly in the side, rolling her eyes as she did so. "Of course I don't, baka! I'm not going to miss your recital for anything!"

"That's good. I've been working really hard these past few days."

Gina couldn't help but laugh. Practice for the lead up to the recital was probably the most work and effort Saki had put into anything before. Saki was already gifted with her music, and Gina was sure that with this extra practice, her performance was going going to be spectacular.

Saki pointed at her friend, narrowing her eyes. "Tickets go on sale in two week's time. Don't you dare forget it!"

Gina chuckled wryly. "I'll make a note of it, don't worry." She'd already marked the date tickets went on sale on her calendar.

"Gina? Are you there?"

Gina whipped around at the familiar voice. Her voice broke out into a smile as she spotted Riko lingering in the threshold of the doorway, a few papers in her hand. Those papers surely had something to do with her being appointed to manager.

Riko had told her last night before they parted ways that she'd take care of everything to do with her changing clubs. Aoi was in her class, she said, and she was all too happy to talk about things with the track team's captain, and then hand the necessary forms in.

Gina didn't think Riko would've had trouble convincing Aoi to let her go. Something told her that Aoi would be relieved to have her off the track team.

"Who's that?" Saki hissed as Gina stood up. "You've been wanted by all of the seniors recently, Gina."

Gina chuckled. "That's Aida Riko, coach of the basketballs team. I'm going to become their manager."

"What? You didn't tell my anything about this!" Saki spluttered. Her dark eyes narrowed suspiciously. "Is there anything else you are keeping me in the dark about?"

Gina raised her hands. "I only proposed the idea yesterday!" she exclaimed. The dark-haired girl looked back at the doorway, where Riko stood. The coach made a deliberate showing of checking the time on her watch.

Gina quickly took the hint. "Okay, can't keep her waiting."

As she made a dash for the exit, Gina passed Kuroko and Kagami. She grinned their way, and they grinned back. Soon, she was offically going to be a part of the team.

As soon as Gina stepped outside of the classroom, Riko's face split into a wide grin. "So, it's been confirmed! I talked to Aoi, and you're off the track team, and you're now the official manager of Seirin's basketball club!"
