Michael's POV
After Carly gets up and leaves, I excuse myself as well. I walk out of the room and see Carly pacing around in the hallway. I make my way over to her and let her know I'm there by placing my hand on her shoulder.
She turns around and I can see that her mascara is running down her face. I take the sleeve of my jacket and wipe her eyes.
"It's going to be okay." I say to her, trying to reassure her.
"Michael, I'm the reason he's like this. He has nightmares about me hurting you because I kept you away from him."
"We don't know that. It could just be something his mind made up. Carly, you are an amazing mom and any child would be lucky to have you as a parent. I mean look at Jaxson. He's smart, funny, and kind and all of that came from you. The only thing he's probably going to learn from me is how to eat a whole pizza by himself."
"That's not true Michael. In just the few days he's known you, you've made him happy and the guys have too. I haven't seen him this happy in years."
"Trust me when I tell you you're a good mom."
"I trust you." I pull her into another hug and I can tell she's crying again. Something about this moment is making me feel a lot of the things that I used to feel with her. I shake the thought out when she pulls away from me. "We should probably get back in there. Jaxson must be extremely confused." She says as she wipes her eyes."
"Yeah, you're right." She smiles and we walk back into the room.
<A few hours later>
After Jaxson's therapy appointment, Carly decides to give him to me for the next few nights. I'm a little nervous, but I know that I can handle this.
I hear someone coming down the stairs and turn to see Luke putting on his jacket. "Going out again?" I ask.
"Yeah, but I have a feeling I'll be home a lot sooner than the last few times."
"Why do you say that?"
"Because I don't have any- oh hey Jaxson." He says nervously, causing me to laugh.
"You know, one of these days you're gonna end up like I am right now. You're gonna get something you never expected and you're either going to love it, or hate it, but it will happen if you don't stop doing this."
"Hey, I'm careful."
"I was too and now look where I am."
"Okay, maybe I shouldn't go out." He says as he sits down. I laugh and look at the time.
"I have to go get Jaxson to bed."
"I can help if you want me to."
"It's okay Luke. I need to learn to do this on my own any way." I pick up Jaxson and he rubs his eyes. He rest his head on my shoulder and I carry him upstairs. I walk into his room and set him down on the bed. I pull his covers on him and hand him is favorite stuffed animal.
I kiss the top of his head and walk over to the door. I turn off the light and walk out, making sure to leave the door cracked open just enough for some light to get into his room. I walk back down stairs and see Luke kicked back on the couch. "I didn't think you were serious when you said you're staying home." I say as I sit down next to him.
"I think you're right. I'm only twenty and I'm not ready to have a kid yet. I still want to live my life and go on tour and I'm not saying you're wrong for having a family, I'm just not ready."
"No I get it. I wasn't ready, but I kinda have to be now."
"You and Carly have a history with each other and I want that with someone before I start something. I want to find someone who I love and who loves me so this isn't what I need to do. I don't need to go to parties and other things like that to find someone."
"Well Carly and I met in high school, but even her and I aren't together anymore."
"But there's still a chance. She came here for you Mike."
"No she came here to tell me she had my kid. Jaxson shouldn't be the reason her and I get back together."
"Have you thought about it?"
"Of course I've thought about it, but it's not a good idea. Like you said her and I have a history so it's really not a good idea to get tangled up in that again."
"Do you think she still has feelings?"
"Well the last time we were together, she practically told me she wanted nothing to do with me anymore and then I left."
"It's been five years, things can change."
"Please don't try and make me think of that. For now, I just want to help her with Jaxson and be there for my kid."
"I'm sorry. I just know how hard it was for Carly after that car crash. She couldn't get out of bed for days and then when she did, she saw you with Rose on the first day she came back to school. She tried everything, but only you could make her better. We all thought you two would last forever, even Calum."
"I thought so to, but things and people change and clearly her and I weren't meant to be."
"You-"
"I'm gonna head to bed. I've had a long day and I just need sleep." I stand up and walk upstairs. Before I head to my room, I check on Jaxson who's still sound sleep. I smile and leave the door cracked again and walk to my room.
I kick my shoes off and strip down into my boxers. I climb into my bed and as soon as my head hits the pillow, I'm fast alseep.
