Prolouge

August 9th

It was a dark night, one where you could see the stars well in the sky. The milky way, Orion's belt. I was laying on the trampoline in the backyard of my parents' house. I was staying the weekend there, spending time with old friends before heading back to Salt Lake for college. Emma was lying next to me.

"do you have to go back?"

"You know it's easier to live on campus than to drive. And plus, I have a TON of events coming up."

She wasn't happy I was leaving tomorrow in the afternoon. I don't get to see her often,

class at U of U was already a lot, but ASUU was more on my shoulders. I couldn't just come back all the time. Emma lays her head on my shoulder, sighing.

"Addie? Ben wants to move in together, in St George."

"and what do you think?"

She stays silent. She wanted to, I knew that already though. We've been friends for years, I knew how she felt about Ben, about St George. She was going to, and I supported her in anything she did, so I didn't pry, I left it at her silence. We stare at the stars together, listening to the stand-alone tree in my backyard swaying.
