 Esse Quam Videri
To be rather than to appear

The rest of the week flew by and soon it was Friday night. The night before Zelda's party. My friends were all excited while my enthusiasm was for a whole new reason. I really believed that I'm gonna catch Zelda doing something that will prove her to be the suspicious being I believed her to be. When I was gonna fall asleep, I heard the familiar tapping sounds on my window again. I groan as I shake off my sleep. I really hated it when someone disturbs my sleep.

I open the window and help Heather into my room." What's the matter Heather?" I ask a little to harshly. Heather, eyes glittering with enthusiasm, didnot take notice. "Well tomorrow night is the party. I was deciding on what to wear. I just couldn't wait. So I came to you."  I mentally face palm myself. How did she get the red eyes again? "You could have waited till the next morning." I say sternly. She just wasn't in the mood to listen.

She took my hand and veered me to my wardrobe. I liked my clothes so I had a collection. She opened it up and started choosing from the many outfits. She whines in frustration after sometime " do you have anything other than jeans and shirts?" She asks. " I wear what is comfy to me. I do want to wear those pretty dresses but I don't feel comfortable wearing those and I know I wouldn't use it much after sometime. So I never bothered."  I reply, rolling my eyes.

" We should go to my house first thing in the morning. I don't know if my dresses will fit you but I'll search." She says giving a big yawn. " Ok we need to sleep. You can stash in here darling." I offer and move to sleep on my side of the bed. Heather lies down on the other side and whispers a goodnight before we both doze off. It was natural for Heather to do a sleep over without any information. She was always welcome at our house.

"Zoe!!!! Can you please hurry up?" Heather yelled while banging on the door of the bathroom. I was currently in Heather's house taking a bath. I usually take my time in the shower. I liked the feeling of water flowing down my skin, easing all the knots of tension, calming me. I gave no heed to Heather's words as I continued to enjoy my bath.

When I finally stepped out of the bathroom in my bath robe, Heather stormed up to me, gave me a little glare and proceeded to take her bath. It wasn't my fault that she has so little time to get ready. I told her to use the bathroom first, she was feeling lazy and pushed me into the bathroom when she totally knew that I take a lifetime to come out of a bath.

I sigh in frustration when I see the dress Heather had picked out for me to wear to the party. I didn't know much about dresses. It was a body fitting dress which came just above my knee. It was a pastel pink dress. That's what I liked about the while outfit. The colour was one of my favourite. I loved the pastel shades. It just exudes an aura of pleasantness.

As I just finished strapping on my dress Heather hurried out of the bathroom in a robe that was partially tied and went on to put on her dress in such a haste that I almost thought the dress was gonna tear apart now. God she was fast. While I just stood there staring at this side of Heather when she suddenly turned around  "what the hell are you doing Zoe? Dress up ,come on." She shouts bringing me back from my shock. This Heather scared the shit out of me, so I just planned to not get on her bad side until Heather calms down.

She was wearing a long black dress that just hugged the right curves. Heather just looked stunning in whatever she wore. Her snowy hair and scarlet eyes  were such an elegant contrast to her dark attire.

After she finished getting ready, she came up to me with mischief in her eyes." Girl , you better not be planning what I think you are planning." I said as I slowly backed up. Heather just continued advancing up to me. " Just a little bit won't do you any harm Zoe." She says. When I tried to escape, she holds me by my waist and makes me sit on a chair opposite her dresser. She took out a huge brush and continued to apply make up to my face. I never wore makeup, never. Not even a little bit. I'm not against people who wear makeup but I just wasn't a fan of it personally.  I sit in annoyed silence because I knew there was no escaping from here without me wearing the makeup.

After what seemed like a long time, Heather whistles out " you are gonna slay it girl."  She had done something to my face. It's not like I wasn't recognizable but more like I just looked like a flower which just bloomed. My face was a rosy complexion which went along with the dress and my eyes seemed a lot bigger, the Vermillion now a brighter shade and my lips fuller. I smirked " Don't I always?"
