Chapter 8

Nightmare stood still. "Yeah I said Overheat. Why? Is there something wrong?" He questioned. "Overheat is my father."

"That excuse of a dragon is your father?" Snaggletooth hissed, spreading his wings. "He's the one that gave me all the scars and burns! I can't believe Moonglider would ever fall for him," he spat. "When Fissure became queen, she quickly sought out to form an alliance with other tribes. She easily allied with the HiveWings, and then allied with the SandWings. Queen Sandstone was queen of the SandWings at the time," Snaggletooth explained. "I can't believe your parents never told you."

"They never tell me any stories," Nightmare huffed. "Continue, please."

"Well, anyways, those three queens only allied with her because they also believed that there shouldn't be hybrids. They killed the hybrids of their tribes, and soon the NightWing queen, Deadlyteeth, joined in. She was a terrible NightWing, and of course, her name came from her unusually large and sharp teeth. They tore through the tribes, killing every hybrid," Snaggletooth continued.

"Deadlyteeth was a very cocky queen. She thought she could kill all the hybrids herself without anyone's help. She went for Queen Lapis, a SeaWing RainWing hybrid, by herself. But she underestimated the queen deeply, and venom from Queen Lapis was shot at her face. She became blind and the venom had gotten near her mouth, melting her gums and making her teeth fall out. The damage to her gums couldn't be undone, and her teeth would never be able to grow back, hindering her useless. Her title as queen was taken from her, and when Dreamstalker took over, Deadlyteeth was then named Noteeth, a reminder of her uselessness," Snaggletooth explained.

"NightWings wouldn't usually take that name," Nightmare pointed out. He was never told of Deadlyteeth. He felt a bit disappointed that his parents never told him all these terrible things in the past. "Continue."

"Soon after, Noteeth was assassinated. To this day, nobody knows who killed her, but Queen Fissure believes that it was Queen Lapis finishing off the useless NightWing. Queen Fissure was afraid that she would suffer the same fate as Deadlyteeth, so she decided not to attack the RainWings. Since Queen Lapis was also part SeaWing, Fissure decided to attack the SeaWings instead. Us SeaWings were terribly outnumbered from all the SkyWings, HiveWings, and SandWings. I was a general in that war, but that title was taken from me when Overheat burned my mouth badly," Snaggletooth growled, saying Overheat's name with a deep disgust. 

"I'm sorry that happened. But I'm not Overheat. I heard all the terrible things he did, and I hope other dragons just see me as Nightmare, not Overheat," Nightmare murmured. "Snaggletooth, you don't blame me for what happened to you, do-"

"I wasn't finished," Snaggletooth snapped. "After the SeaWings had basically been beaten to a pulp, Princecess Desolate had had enough of her mother's ways. She quickly challenged her mother for the throne, and won. She became queen of the SandWings, and finally broke the alliance with Queen Fissure. Some SandWings still believed in Queen Fissure's ways, so they left to join the SandWings. I think those few were called Antelope, Coyote, and Fox," Snaggletooth finished. "Now in these present times, Queen Fissure and Queen Scorpion are the only ones leading their tribes to kill hybrids."

"Now that Queen Dreamstalker is dead, Moonglider is the only one who can take over. She is the only daughter of Queen Dreamstalker," Abysswatcher commented. "Nightmare, you have a sister, right?"

"Yeah. Her name is Palesky. Why're you asking?" Nightmare asked.

"Because we don't know about Moonglider right now. She could of been killed by Queen Fissure. So then next in line for queen would be her daughter," Abysswatcher pointed out.

"Palesky cant be queen of the NightWings. She doesn't even look like a NightWing. She looks more like a SkyWing, but with extremely pale yellow scales and a few black scales. And plus, she can't breathe fire," Nightmare pointed out. "Wait a second, who is next in line for queen of the SkyWings?"

"Queen Fissure has five daughters: Coal, Dawn, Crimson, Wildfire, and Twister. None of them have challenged her for the throne. My guess is that they are afraid to. But if one of them is to become queen next, it should be Crimson. She's the only one out of those daughters that actually looks trustworthy," Abysswatcher puffed.

"If you two are heading towards the Ice Kingdom, you should leave now. You would want to get there before night, trust me," Snaggletooth told them.

"I'm going with you, to the Kingdom of the Sea," Abysswatcher said to Snaggletooth. "I'll hide in there, where no other dragon can find me."

"What about going to the Ice Kingdom?" Nightmare questioned. 

"I want you to find Moonglider first," Abysswatcher pleaded. "And then, possibly, you can head into the Ice Kingdom." He suddenly leaned close to Nightmare's ear. "The reason I want you to go to the Ice Kingdom.... it's because there's someone there that you need to check if she's ok. Don't worry about being in trouble for going there. Just tell Queen Iceberg that Abysswatcher sent you. She knows who I am." And with that, the dark gray-blue dragon jumped into the water, disappearing with Snaggletooth. 

Nightmare spread his wings, taking off into the sky. He flew around the side of the cliff, looking for a cave to spend the night in. He suddenly wondered who Abysswatcher was talking about. Who was he checking on that was in the Ice Kingdom? And why would he need to check if she's ok?
