*This chapter is a little short but I promise the next few will be longer. Thanks for reading.*-The Pumpkin Queen

All I remember was going under the water. I remember feeling it go into my lungs, nearly suffocating me. I remember blacking out. I don't remember how I ended up on the beach. The sun was over my head when I opened my eyes. I guessed it was still early, maybe 8 or 9 in the morning. I sat up slowly, instantly regretting my choice. A headache rang against my skull and my body ached beyond description. My clothes were damp and covered in sand. My hair had come out of its simple ponytail and I couldn't feel my phone in my pocket. I blinked a few times before looking around.

My small rowboat had washed up on shore in splinters. I sighed, realizing I would probably be the one to pay for it. There were a few birds in the air and the sky was clear. I turned my attention back to the ocean when I heard a splash. I rubbed my eyes and stared at the blue waters. Maybe I was delusional after my near death experience but I thought I saw a black tail with golden specs disappear under the waves. I couldn't help but smirk. "Thank you," I whispered even though the mermaid who had saved me was gone.
