Pronunciation :
N A S A L I S A T I O NSomeone asked in the comment section a year ago about pronunciation but I did not explained it properly so I am making it now.
She was asking why does 감사합니다 pronounced as kamsahamnida and not kamsahabnida.
In this question there are 4 important consonants.
So, 감사합니다 is spelled like this (it means thank you for those who still don't know). What do you think is the right pronunciation of this word?If you think the pronunciation is "kamsahabnida" then you have a point but you are wrong. Why?
The right pronunciation is "kamsahamnida" because...
ㅂ sounds/consonant follows by ㄴ consonant are pronounced as ㅁ (so kamsahaMnida makes sense now)
THE IMPORTANT CONSONANTS.ㅂ + ㄴ = ㅁ
ㅍ + ㄴ = ㅁIf you see these two consonants followed by ㄴ it means you should pronounce it as ㅁ.
EXAMPLE:
합니다 = hamnida
(You see the ㅂ + ㄴ right there?)싶니 = shim-ni
(You see the ㅍ + ㄴ?)입니다 = imnida
(ㅂ + ㄴ = ㅁ)So it means, if you see these consonants ㅂ & ㅍ being followed by ㄴ that means consonants ㅂ & ㅍ should be pronounced as ㅁ.
