JUST AS THE TITLE SAYS, THIS IS A BRIEF HISTORY OF WHAT HAPPENED IN MIDWAY'S WORLD

January 1944: A mysterious enemy suddenly appeared across the world's oceans, destroying ships of multiple navies and causing havoc, they were later named "Krakens". The leaders of the 5 leading nations- under pressure from the populace- decided to settle all of their conflicts and formed an alliance called "Global Defence Organisation"

November 1945: The battle of Coral Sea took place, 2 Kraken battleships, 4 destroyers, 2 cruisers and 2 carriers wiped out all but 2 ships of a 20 ships fleet. This was the first major defeat for Humanity and proved that aircraft carriers weren't effective against the Krakens due to their exceptionally accurate AA, though fighter aircrafts were still effective against the enemy's aviation forces. From then on, all light and medium carrier projects were canceled and the resources were diverted to heavy armored carriers and battleships, those that were already in construction were still finished.

March 1946: The disappearance of CBG-21 in the North Sea followed by several photographs from nearby high-altitude recon aircrafts, which showed a bright glow inside of an area covered by thick fog, provoked a worldwide investigation of the phenomenon

May 1946: A massive series of attacks by the Krakens starting on the first day of the month and lasting for 2 weeks resulted in the loss of many major GDO's island bases. The Krakens now rules the waves

October 1947: A joint project between the USA, Germany and Britain resulted in the creation of GDOS Spearhead on the 16th of October, the first ever vessel to be powered by a nuclear reactor. Thanks to the new powerplant, the ship was also equipped with advanced, powerful steam turbines, radar directed AA guns, radar guided anti-ship missiles and a new advanced radar system. As a result of the Spearhead's creation, constructions on new conventional battleships were cancelled, old and damaged ships were scrapped to make the Unity class battleship - an improvement over the Spearhead

January 1948: Operation "Ghostrider", a surprise assault on a Kraken port on Guam. On the 5th of May, a fleet of 50 ships, under the cover of darkness, attacked the base. The battle lasted for 4 hours and resulted in the first major victory for the GDO. Data acquired from the base were used to plan a counteroffensive against the Krakens

October 1949: Operation "Fireball", a massive assault on a major Kraken experimental weapons facility on the island of Jan Mayen. On the 14th of October, a massive fleet of 230 ships attacked the facility. The battle lasted for 10 hours and resulted in the capture of the facility but at a cost of 130 ships sunk.

August 1950: The first 12 ships of the Coral Sea-class carrier and Jutland-class battleship were launched, marking the turning point of the war. From then on, the Krakens were rapidly pushed back

September 2nd, 1951: The war with the Krakens ended with humanity coming out victorious.
