The Serpents and I walk inside the school, all in our leather jackets as their eyes scan the unfamiliar property, probably taking note already of how much nicer this place is in comparison to the hell hole we were just in. We then approach a table, I assume from what Archie told me and who's standing behind it, that Veronica has prepared with sheets of paper and even 2 pots of daffodils and stationary. It brings a smile to my face.
"Friends." She beams, and Archie nods over to me from besides her and I nod back. "On behalf of the students and faculty here at Riverdale High, welcome to your new school. To ease this transition, I've set up a registration desk where you can get your locker assignments, schedules and list of extracurriculars." She leans on the table, pointing to every item she's listed. I admire her trying so hard to welcome us, especially under the knowledge the Northsiders here will 100% not accept their new students.
"We encourage all of you to drink deeply from the cup that is fair Riverdale." Veronica finishes, looking proud of herself.
"Stand down, Eva Peron." A voice that I had not missed calls out, and from the top of the stairs, Cheryl (of course in an all red attire) and Reggie, followed by the Vixens, charge down the stairs towards us and I roll my eyes.
"There's the school spirit I so fondly remember." Jughead nudges me and I chuckle.
"Cheryl. No one invited Fascist Barbie to the party." Veronica barks at her, folding her arms.
"Wrong Veronica. No one invited South Side scum to our school." Cheryl barks back, folding her own arms. "Listen up, ragamuffins. I will not allow Riverdale High's above average GPA to suffer, because of classrooms overcrowded with...underachievers. So please, do us all a favor and find some other school to debase with your hardscrabble ways." She beams.
"Why don't you come over here and say that to my face?" Toni threatens, moving closer to Cheryl, and I slightly move behind her incase anything happens.
"Happily, Queen of the Buskers!" Cheryl chimes, also moving towards her.
"Okay, guys, everyone. Can we just put our Northside-Southside differences apart and start over? A new slate?" Archie argues, calmly, bringing a small smile to my face.
"You don't speak for the Bulldogs, Andrews. And need I remind you these greaser-snakes showed up at your place to kick your ass." Reggie spits, looking from the Serpents to Archie as if he's directing the comments visciously towards us as well as trying to get Archie to join his ridiculous cause.
"Happy to finish what we started." Sweet Pea threatens, and takes a step forward and I pull him back.
"I am so over the toxic masculinity in this hallway right now." Veronica yells, turning from both groups.
"Alright! That's enough pomp and circumstance!" Principal Weatherbee declares, easing the tension slightly. "Everyone, let's get to class. Now."
Reluctantly, everyone obeys, and we all begin to head to class, yet we all know this is only the start of this drama.
_
I stand besides my new/old locker, opening it to put my books inside. I guess it's quite nice to be using a locker that actual opens and locks on the first try, rather than the trashy ones we had to deal with in Southside High. A part of me misses the school - not the equipment but the feeling of having a place, a family, somewhere I belonged. I never felt that truly in Riverdale High. Maybe it'll be different now the rest of my friends go here.
