Hidden Witness

Green eyes

The officer hands Luke a file before opening the car door for me 

“Jane if you have any questions you are to ask Luke you won’t be hearing from me now till we have Francis in custody or if your location is known” 

I just nod at him as I sit down into the car “bye Jane and I hope this will all be over soon” 

“Me as well,” I said as he shut the door. Luke came and sat next to with the file on his lap he saw me looking at it 

“It’s just little bits of information like I new IDs and that just to make it look even more like you are Jane Gardner”, he told me 

“have you done this much,” I asked him 

He looked like he was struggling to know how To answer  that question “a few” he said 

I wanted him to go into detail but I understand he probe is not allowed to talk about it,  I stare at the full moon outside my window thinking how beautiful the silver beams shining out is, I have always been a night owl my dad always joked around with me that I was a vampire as I am always sneaking outside at night but I was never going out to hunt Defenceless people to drain them of their blood it was something more mundane than that I just walked to the small, park near my house just to watch the moon I love the calm stillness the night has.

“You know what a full moon means don’t you,” Luke said pulling me out if my thought 

“What”

“It means the werewolves come out to play they go on the hunt for young girls” 

I rolled my eyes at him “ I’m not a little girl you can’t scare me, Luke, especially with make-believe monsters” I told him how old does he think I am 

“don’t let them hear you say that they are make-believe they will be offended” he says 

“oh I’m so scared,” I said sarcastically 

 “you should be because I also hear they like girls called Jane” 

He is so childish “you and me both know my names not really Jane so I think I am safe, any chance you know what they think about people called Luke?” I asked him while looking out the window 

“they love handsome men called Luke class them as their best friends” 

I scoff at that response “yeah and what about the ugly Luke’s what do they think of them” I laugh to myself thinking that was funny 

“can you even get an ugly Luke”

I place both my hands on his face and squeeze his face together I go to speak but I notice his green eyes and how lovely they are, only 2% of the world’s population has green eyes and of course Luke would be part of that 2% 

“Jane what are you doing?” Luke asked while I had his face squashed and I remember what I was doing 

“I am looking at one right now,” I say releasing his face from my hands 

“Sis that really hurt my feelings you think I’m ugly, ” he says with a pouted face

I was about to respond when the car pulls over to the side of the road 

“We are now going into another car it will be Katie our guardian remember she will then take us to our home, any questions?” Luke asks me 

I shake my head. I open the car door forgetting how cold it is outside I am greeted by a warm friendly smile 

“Hi Jane I’m Katie, you must be exhausted let’s get you home,” she says wrapping an arm around me and walking me to her car, she is a very petite lady I would say in her 40s with brown hair tied in a low ponytail, from the way she had her arm around me and her smile I get the sense she is a very warm friendly loving person which to be honest is the kind of person I need right now.
