'The Four Spirits' by VioletSunrises
Interview with VioletSunrises:
1. Can you briefly introduce your story and tell us why you think it won first place? Why do you want readers to consider reading it?
The Four Spirits is about four girls that can control the four elements, and they have no idea why. They search for the source of their power and eventually discover an organization called the Order of the Amethyst Throne, and they seem to know a lot about their powers. I honestly don't know why it won, I didn't think it was very good lmao. But I guess I would want people to read it because it would mean a lot to me. The only stories of mine that get a lot of attention are fanfics.
2. What elements do you think make a good story?
Well, I believe it should have diverse characters, of all different races, ages, and maybe even some LGTBQ characters if the author is okay with writing that. Also an interesting plot and characters with backstories.
3. Have you ever thought of pursuing writing as a profession? Or are you currently planning to do so?
Yes, actually. I would love to be an author but I doubt it will happen. I'll try though.
4. What inspired you to start writing?
I think I read Warriors by Erin Hunter (or should I say the Erin Hunters) and that's when I really got into writing. I've always loved it though.
5. Which one of your characters can you relate the most to?
Hm... well they all have way harder lives than me but probably Willow. She's kind of daring but also quiet if that makes sense. She takes time to observe before acting.
6. How do you come up with the titles to your books?
I don't even know. They just come to me at random times.
7. How do you balance the demands of writing with other responsibilities?
I set a time during the day when I have no other things to do and just sit down and write.
8. Who/What is your source of inspiration when it comes to writing?
It used to be Warriors and Erin Hunter but now it is very much Shannon Messenger and Keeper of the Lost Cities.
9. What do you think are your strengths and weaknesses as a writer?
Strengths: I'm pretty patient and you definitely need that in writing. I also consider myself to be good at coming up with plots. Weaknesses: sometimes I abandon my stories because I think I have a better idea and want to write it out, which leads to a lot of unfinished stories that had a lot of potentials.
10. What comes first, the plot or characters?
Characters, I just find it easier.
Fun questions section:
11. Name a celebrity you most admire.
Does Shannon Messenger count?
12. If you had 3 wishes from a genie, what would they be?
World peace, for me and my family to die happy, and to be successful career-wise.
13. If you could time travel, where would you go?
That's hard, but probably to Native North America before the white people came.
