Suspected Filipino-Chinese drug trafficker arrested in Quezon City
August 30, 2024

QUEZON CITY, Philippines -- Authorities have arrested alleged Filipino-Chinese drug trafficker in a warehouse turned into an illegal drug hub in a commercial compound in Quezon City.

PDEA chief Anton Moreno identified the suspect as Jeremy Syjuco, 31, son of Robert Syjuco, a businessman who owns large-scale construction company Syjuco Builders.

He was arrested on Thursday, August 29, after PDEA agents held a raid after an informant tipped the authorities of a possible drug transaction that night.

Police found several packs of shabu (methamphetamine hydrochloride) hidden inside cement bags in which their company produce.

"The meth we found is estimated around Php 500 million. Syjuco has been on the drug lord list since 2020. The arrest of Syjuco tonight is considered a high impact operation because of the amount of shabu confiscated. We are still on the hunt for his alleged business partner, Adolf Filoteo, another Chinoy businessman," PDEA Chief Moreno said.

Authorities have been actively monitoring Syjuco and the warehouse's operation since December 2020 after an informant showed up and offered vital information regarding said illegal activities. The surveillance took years, but when a concrete evidence finally showed up, the police immediately set-up a raid.

The informant was offered a Php 5 million reward by the President. However, he profusely declined the prize, saying "Ginagawa ko lang po ang tingin kong tama." ---- Rappler.com
