I looked at the audience who were waiting impatiently for the next guests. Some of them looked like they would explode if they weren't out for another second. My leg bounced up and down under the desk as I quietly cleared my throat.
"Now, our next guests may just be one of the biggest bands right now. Despite all the worries, they've gotten hits and have been flying high around the charts," I said. "Ladies and gentlemen, The Wings!"
The curtain opened up and this time behind it was Paul and the Wings, but they were playing a song I didn't even know, and I had made sure to listen to any song they may play. The audience looked just as confused as me, but then I saw the smirk on Paul's face, and I knew this was a completely new song.
I must admit it was a very good song, one that could totally bring up the energy in a room. They had a brass section backing them and Paul's bass was very loud in the mix. As much as I despise him, he does have a great talent in writing songs.
The audience was definitely starting to get into it. It was a bit of a funny song as if he was throwing all these words at the critics. Then, when he jumped into the chorus, it was too obvious to not miss. He was definitely poking fun at them with his whole 'I love you' thing.
The performance was admittedly more amazing than I'd like to say and as soon as they finished, the crowd erupted with a cheer so loud that was very rare. All of the band looked very proud of what they just did, the smiles on their face showing their excitement. I stood up as I always did and shook all of their hands, before sitting back down as they sat on the couch.
"Certainly a song I haven't heard before. New, or am I just bad at my research?" I asked.
"It's a new song," Denny said. "Silly Love Songs."
"Ah yes, Paul's specialty," I said, earning another laugh. "What's it about?"
"Well like you said, I've done many love songs and people poked fun and thought it was dumb and all that, but y'know, I personally like writing love songs. Maybe they're a bit loveless, you've gotta make exception for the bitter, I guess," Paul said sarcastically, a smile coming to his face as he heard some of the people laugh. "Anyway, my dear critics, here's my love song to you."
He said it in a cheesy voice and batted his eyelashes at the camera, getting another laugh.
"Could we be getting a new album?" I asked.
"Well you see, we decided we wanted to announce on this show that we are currently working on some new material and will be releasing our album this year," Paul said, getting the audience to cheer.
Remembering what the producers told me to do, I told myself to stay calm and brought us to another point. "I suppose it's fitting, I used to be the one you'd ring up whenever you had a new song," I chuckled very fakely. Ugh, I hated this.
"Yes, you were!" Paul said, suddenly getting excited. "Back in the 60s."
"Was she the one who told you when your songs were crap?" Jimmy asked, getting a light chuckle.
I blushed slightly, but recovered from it, doing tricks I had learned along the way during show business. "Of course I did," I said.
"Go on then, we wanna hear what you think," Denny chuckled.
"You see, after years of my excellent critique," I started, putting on a cocky voice and straightening my back as the audience giggled, "eh, he's gotten a bit better. Of course, I used to judge his songs before he would even get them into the studio, but he's put the song to you guys and you've all done an amazing job. I've listened to quite a bit of your catalogue and you all are a very good band, y'know, Joe, you're a very tight drummer, Jimmy, an amazing talent with great ability, and Denny, of course you add so much with your vocals and playing."
