He was so close.

He was so close to defeating him. Blood had dripped from his lip onto the floor as Link had slowly dragged his gloved hand across his face. A crimson red streak had grazed his jaw now with his deep blue eyes narrowed up at the beast before him. A dark sight, one that would scare anyone, even the hero of time. He swallowed hard as he had slowly lifted the sword above his head. This had been it, the final blow. The final blow that would free Hyrule from the wrath of this beast, this man who had plagued the land.

He began to charge for the man, a war cry escaping the Hylian's bloodstained lips. He was so close, he could finally see peace approaching. He would fix all his wrongs, and he would finally be free to forget this. All the bloodshed, the fear, and nightmare filled nights that had never seemed to end.

His attempt on the attack had been quickly interrupted, though. Within what seemed to be a heartbeat, he had been shoved to the floor. He didn't understand what had hit him, the room had been completely empty, only filled with the blood from the beast, and some of his own. He had heard the wizzing of an arrow, which had quickly followed with the painful scream of a young girl. Link's sharp blue eyes had flicked over to the girl within a second before they had widened. His heart began to pound as he watched the girl collapse to the floor. It seemed like all color had been ripped out of her, the only thing that remained was the deep red substance, ruining the white dress that she adorned.

His mind was going at a mile a minute. She had saved him, a girl he had no idea was even there. She wasn't supposed to be there, why would a young girl be here? Here, in the middle of the darkest battle in 100 years. Link began to panic, his eyes flicking to the beast, before to the girl once again. Ganon was too far hurt to strike back too hard now, Link was sure of it. He had a chance to save her, didn't he? He had dropped his sword, quickly crawling over to the collapsed figure. The arrow had struck her straight through her heart, he had instantly saw it. Her soft, gentle eyes filled with crystal tears. She was in so much pain, but she had saved him.

There was no way to save her. He knew it then and there. Her eyes were already glassed over, the tears from the original impact. He looked at her, his heart seeming to ache. It didn't feel right, winning, defeating Ganon like this. He had to do it differently. He had reached for the gift from the great fairy. He had felt that this was the reason he had gotten it from her. He felt like this was the one time he could use it.

It happened so fast. It all seemed to just flash by. As soon as he had opened that jar, his eyes had clamped shut at the bright light and the wind that felt like it would rip his bones out of his body. He opened his eyes, slowly. The sound had stopped, the light was replaced by the beam of sunlight, bleeding through the leaves of an apple tree. He was leaning against the bark, an apple in his hand. The juice ran down his palm. He had a bite of the apple in his mouth, that he surely didn't remember taking.

He chewed on it for a moment, furrowing his brows. It had taken him a moment to realize where he was, and what was happening. He was back to where he was, a day or two after he had talked to the great fairy. He remember sitting by these apple trees, having a snack before he had headed to Kakariko Village. He remembered the sweet taste of the crisp apples as he had listened to the wind rustle the trees. He was safe, the battle hadn't even begun yet.

That meant that the girl would be alive too. He had dropped the apple, his hand quickly wiping at his lips. He needed to find her. He knew that she had to be important, she had to be. No one would have ever risked their life completely to save him. He didn't want it that way, either. He knew what would happen now, he didn't need someone sparing their life for him. He knew that he needed to be more careful, and most importantly, he needed to know who she was.

She was gorgeous. He could vaguely remember the girl, the silky dress she wore. Her smooth, elegant hair that seemed to perfectly suit her. She was stunning in nearly every way, he thought. Her cheeks seemed as if they had once given the best smiles. He couldn't forget her face, the face when she had been lost. He wanted to see her alive. He wanted to see her smiling. The smallest smile formed on Link's face as he had began to walk to town. There were many places the girl could have been, but the first step was to go to town and figure out if anyone had known of her.

The girl who had saved his life.
