can i tell you i love you?
in this age when
everyone loves in
liquor, left swipes,
and loud bass,
and micropoetry
with d r a m a t i c
spacing
can i love you in
loud, old love songs
and dancing in the rain
in the garden,
and dramatically
reading out our favourite
poems and passages
on a sunday?
i could love you in
a cigarette and 2 am texts,
but can i love you in
a milkshake and 2 straws?
in sappy post it notes,
and flowers on your desk,
and kissing
in front of our friends,
and singing in the kitchen
at the top of our lungs,
and sitting on the roof
with endless conversations.
when everyone talks
in between the lines,
and tries
to say things
without saying them
can i tell you i love you?
