Why did I always have to be awake in the middle of the night? Probably due to Felix giving me a constant headache. Hyunjin and Changbin were out on patrol and Jeongin was monitoring, so the guys I was all alone in the room. I let out a sigh, getting up and walking out. If I was going to stay awake, I might just as well keep someone else company. I walked out in my pajamas, carefully closing the door behind me. I walked up to the living room, seeing Jeongin sleepily supervise while Jisung was sitting on the couch, just reading a magazine.

"Hey Innie" I said softly, falling down in a chair next to him. Jeongin looked up startled, seeing me next to him softened his gaze instantly. Jisung looked up as well from the couch, but soon went back to his magazine. "What are you doing up? It's the middle of the night" he said softly, moving aside a bit for me to watch the monitors as well, keeping his eyes on me however. "I just couldn't sleep, that's all" I whispered back. It was completely true, I just didn't tell him the exact reason as for why. It's not like he had to know right?

Jeongin stood up, walking up to the kitchen. "Sung, want some water too?" he asked, looking back at his older friend. Jisung once again looked up from his magazine, giving him a small smile. "Yeah, thanks." I tried to peek over the couch to see more of the magazine, yet just couldn't. "What are you reading?" I asked after a while, curiosity getting the best of me. Jisung finally held his magazine up for me to look at, a dorky smile on his face. "This? It's just a magazine full of random facts about the earth, before the virus that is. I've already read it like a thousand times, but it just never fails to amaze me how things used to be. I can barely remember how things used to be a couple of years ago, so I just keep on reading it to try to remember."

I scooted over with the chair, which luckily had wheels under it, wanting to get a closer look of what was in it. Jisung noticed, turning to me more so I could read along. "Here's your water" Jeongin told Jisung, soon moving a bit closer. "I'll put yours on the desk with me, so I can steal you back when you get thirsty" Jeongin teased laughingly before going back to monitoring. I mouthed a small thank you, soon focusing on the magazine again.

"Pets!!!" I suddenly yelled, maybe just a little too loud. "Owhmygosh, I forgot that was a thing! I got a kitten when I was about eight since having to stay at home so much during the virus when it first started could be boring, but soon due to the enormous shortage of food she put him back on the streets... I'm pretty sure I cried for days." Jisung leaned his head back, looking at me upside down. "The beginning of the virus... I can barely even remember it. All I could really remember is those creatures being seen for the first time after escaping from the hospital. I saw one on the streets when I was eleven I think. My mom frantically yelled at me to come inside, already running up to me. I just stood there like the clueless boy I was, not even noticing something was off."

I looked down on him, seeing his eyes become somewhat dull. "It must have been quite scary" I answered, trying to see if he was okay. Jisung shook his head, his normal spark returning. "I don't remember much so it's fine. I made it out of there, but it managed to bite my mother. It was that my dad was able to take me inside or I would have stayed by my mom's side forever until the inevitable had passed. When I was a few years older, I think around 14, my dad passed away due to a pretty bad wound. Hospitals had closed long ago, so of course there was no one to save him... That's why I started studying more to find a cure, to at least be able to save my mom."

A single tear streamed down my face, but I quickly wiped it away. Jisung still noticed, already offering me his water. I declined however, shaking my head with a small smile. "If you don't mind, I've been wondering. For as long as we were here, I don't think I had ever seen you with anyone when I was on monitoring duty... What is your story?"

There it was. The one thing I feared most, even more than the situation itself right now. My past. Why did people always have to be so curious about my past? Why did they have to know about who I used to be, who people around me used to be? My vision became blurry, darkening even as her face came back to me again. I could remember every single detail, from the way her smile literally brightened up the room, her beautiful hazel eyes when hit by the sunlight coming through the wooden barriers that secured the window. The way her long raven hair waved when she spun around happily, showing off how her skirt lifted up when she did. Her sweet voice, saying those simple yet loving words of 'I love you'.

"Y/N...Y/N?" Jisung called out, his voice becoming louder and louder. Jeongin had now turned to me as well, a concerned gaze coming our way. I shook my head, blinking a couple of times. "Sorry, I just spaced out" I said, trying to sound convincing while in fact the tears were now uncontrollably streaming down my face. Jisung's eyes shifted to Jeongin, unsure himself of what to do. Almost instantly Jeongin scooted closer, gently taking me in his arms. "Sssh, it's okay. It's over, it happened, it can't hurt you anymore" Jeongin tried to calm me down, but it already filled my mind again, those few words, yet with the ability to completely destroy me.

"It's not okay. I killed her Jeongin, I killed her!"
