The day of the violin competition had finally arrived. Gaius knew about it, and he had wished to see Gifty play the violin with all gracefulness for the last time. Truthfully, he did miss her a lot. Gaius avoided her for so many weeks now because of his past atrocities. He knew he wasn't deserving of her and her love but still, he longed to see her one more time.

She didn't have to realize that he had come to watch her play the violin. That was the least of his wishes. He just wanted to see her from a closeted space and get the assurance he needed just by watching her perform.

He needed a reminiscence of the Gifty he used to know before he brought sorrow into her life. That Gifty was always happy to play the violin. Her problems and concerns, no matter how heavy, vanished like a whiff of smoke in the air whenever she handled the bow.

If he could get to see that for the last time, he would be ready for jail. Gaius had spent a week at Albert's dormitory, locked up and restrained from seeing the world outside, but he knew Barrister Yemisi Roberts would come around today because he asked for her permission.

That day when he brought up his desires to watch her daughter perform, Yemisi was perplexed. She couldn't even believe that she would be struggling so hard not to cry just from listening to Gaius.

"Please, ma'am. I would love to watch Gifty play the violin. I know it's the only thing capable of making her smile at a time like this and escape the living hell I've created by coming into her life. I don't know what's going to happen after I go to jail, but If I'm able to watch her find a piece of her true self again, if I'm able to see that I'm not supposed to be her top priority through the way she plays the violin, then my mind will be at peace. I know I'm asking for too much, but this is all I want - to have hopes that she would get over me."

"What if she sees you and knows that you came to watch her perform? She will lose all focus she has managed to have. Especially when she sees you in handcuffs."

"I will be careful and do my best not to be seen. I don't mind watching Gifty from outside the music of the center. I need that delusion that she's happy without me, even if it's for that fleeting moment."

Yemisi stared at him for a few minutes. She tried hard to keep a straight, mean face, but those tears gathering around her eyes wouldn't let her do that in peace. Why was she feeling bad for Gaius? Why did he have to be like that? So genuine and remorseful?

If he weren't sorry for his sin, she wouldn't have a problem declining his outrageous request and treating him like a bastard since she treated many hardened criminals the same way.

If only he had never crossed paths with Gifty, so sentencing him to punishment would not come with so many complications. Yemisi was supposed to be furious at him because he had indirectly caused Gifty to act that way. Nevertheless, Gifty had a choice, and she made her decision. Still, how could she not have mixed feelings?

Gaius waited in the living room. Albert showed up a few minutes afterward with a shirt that was a bit oversized and a baggy pair of jeans. He tossed it at him, and Gaius put them on quickly like a cold, homeless wreck. Yemisi walked into the living room shortly after. She wore her usual navy blue suit and trousers, and she came along with some police officers.

Gaius was stunned for a moment but quietly realized immediately that he should have seen it coming since he'd made a peculiar request.

"You'll be at the music center for twenty minutes only, after which we'll take you to the police station. Your court trial is on Thursday. You are under arrest for the attempted rape and indecent assault of Ebunoluwa Williams, " Yemisi addressed Gaius firmly.
