We walked into Starbucks. It seemed pretty cool. There was a fairly large platform/stage at the back. It was holding a microphone holder, a set of drums, a keyboard and a rack of electric guitars and bass'. I guess there was going to be a performance. Cool!
I slid into a booth, Dan opposite me, Phil sat next to me and Chris was next to Dan.
"I'll go order." Phil said, exited. We all told him our orders and chipped in our money.
"What do you think it happening?" Chris asked, gesturing to the stage. Dan shrugged.
"I hope it's a performance. That would be cool!" I said, sticking out my tongue. Lights had shone down onto the stage as Phil came back with our drinks and the lights dimmed. He slid into the booth. We waited for a while, everyone quietly chatted among themselves ready for the people to do what they do. At last, four guys went up on stage. One of them sat at the drums, the other at the keyboard but the last two walked up to the microphone.
"Hello, there. I'm very sorry to say but our lead singer has got a throat infection and he is unable to sing. I'm sorry to say that our performance can't go fourth." The first guy said. Everyone sighed and started to talk to one another, agitated.
"You can fill in!" Dan said to me, wide eyed and full of excitement.
"What?! Me?! No. No way!" I said, backing off. Hell no was I going to perform. It was different doing music YouTube videos compared to performances.
"Come on! Do it!" Phil said, just as enthusiastic as Dan. Chris then decided it would be the perfect opportunity to call out.
"We have a girl here who can sing. And she can sing good!" He shouted over to the boys. They nodded in approval, smiling.
"Chris!!" I shouted at him but he only laughed. Phil then shoved me out of the booth and I glared at them all. Dan saluted, Chris winked and Phil shooed me off. I walked over the the bottom of the stage. The boys greeted me.
"Hi! I'm Austin. Thank you so much for filling in." He smiled.
"Hey. I'm Sam. And no worries. I guess I didn't have much of a choice." I laughed. He laughed also. He was about my age (maybe older), cute and was wearing punk rock clothing. Almost 5SOS styled. He had blonde hair that stood up in a quiff and a bandana around his forehead. He had snake bite piercings and a nose ring.
"What can you sing?" He asked, curiously.
"Practically anything." I answered.
"Avril Lavigne - Smile?" He asked again. I nodded frantically. "Great!" he ran up the steps of the platform and started to quickly talk to his band members. I adjusted the beanie that was resting on my head. To be honest, I almost had their style, just a little bit more...hipster-y. I was wearing skinny jeans, a white. sleeveless blouse and I had a red jumper tied around my waist, a red beanie that said 'Dope' in white letters and combat boots.
Austin waved me onto the stage. I obeyed and nervously went up.
"Give it up for - Sam!" Austin said into the mic. The crowd did a small cheer. Guess you couldn't call it a crowed. There was only about thirty people in the room, maximum.
The boys started playing the first few chords. I breathed in. I couldn't do it. All these butterflies in my stomach. I felt sick. Oh god, don't be sick!! I missed my cue. Shit! I looked over at Austin who gave a nod of concern. They just repeated the pre-verse again so that I could try again. Looking over to my table, I saw Chris give a thumbs, Phil gave a quiet applause and Dan just smiled at me, but I could tell he was worried for me. He could probably tell was going to puke.
