— kageyama aggressively banged on the smudged glass of the school vending machine, forcing it to let it his already payed for milk carton. he reached down and picked it up, sticking a straw through the top and sipping it on his way to the gym.
he liked having the the whole place to himself, no one but him wanted to practice at 10 pm every night.
he threw a ball in the air above him, catching it swiftly as it came back down. the boy worked his skills to their full extent, serving, hitting balls and such.

"OUCH!"

kageyama swiftly turned his head in the direction of the voice a horrified look on his face.

"you hit me in the face," the girl called, throwing the ball back in his direction for him to catch.

-︎ y/n, y/n l/n. definitely the most popular girl in the school if not the town. everything about her was perfect, not even kageyama could critique a single flaw, not that he would ever admit it.

"oh-h um s-sorry," the boy mumbled running after the ball he failed to catch.

"how come you stay here practicing this late at night? aren't you like one of the best volleyball players?"

"u-uhm you know who i am," kageyama asked flustered, his hands barely holding onto the volleyball.

"yeah i've seen you play a couple of times."

"oh."

the girl awkwardly knocked then turned on her foot towards the exit, her locks of h/c hair bouncing as she stepped.

"hey, how come you're here so late? shouldn't you be at a party or something," tobio called, hoping that he wasn't coming off as annoying.

"oh um nothing haha."

"oh okay," kags nodded, then shifted his body to start serving again, glad to have the space to himself again. he practiced for another hour, sipping his milk occasionally, though he couldn't help but wonder why the girl was even here. no teachers were here, no clubs were meeting, nothing was open except the gym.
