*beep, bee-* I was already awake long before the alarm started beeping. I rubbed at my eyes, willing myself to get out of bed. As much as I wanted to sleep in, I knew I wouldn't be able to. For a few weeks now, I'd been getting up early to have as many chances to get new pokemon as possible, and now I've gotten used to being awake now. Recently, I had only one more pokemon to capture before the pokedex for this area was complete, and I could move on to a different area. The problem was that lady luck had apparently decided she hated me. Every time I had gone looking for the last pokemon, I would always get ambushed by one I had already. It was insanely annoying, and it was starting to grate on my resolve.

After dragging myself out of bed, I checked the forecast. Supposedly perfect for the pokemon I was looking for. Well, no sense in putting off. Worse case scenario, I get to level up my pokemon some more. After getting dressed and having a quick breakfast, I ran out to the forest. Might as well get some exercise to wake me up some more. Time for another long, and likely fruitless, hunt for a Growlithe.

"Yes!" Finally, after several hours of wandering, I was ambushed by the pokemon I had been searching for, a Growlithe. Now I just had to capture it. I threw out a pokeball, and called out, "Mightyena!" When the pokeball landed, it opened up, releasing a beam of light that revealed my Mightyena. It was ten levels higher than the Growlithe, so I had every bit of confidence that I would capture it. I didn't bother with anything fancy, I just ordered my pokemon to claw at the Growlithe until it fainted, after which I threw a pokeball at it. Finally, after so long, I had it! I could move on from this place! As I picked up the pokeball, some stats showed up, making me groan. I had forgotten one fact; the Growlithe's level was pitifully low, and it would struggle to keep up if I left now. Grinding was the worst part of being a pokemon trainer, but there wasn't much I could do about it. Then my stomach growled. "What time is it?" I muttered as I took a look at my pokedex. 12:37pm. Well, if I'm hungry, my pokemon probably are as well. One downside on actually getting so close to capturing all the pokemon in the pokedex, was that I had several dozens of pokemon to get food for.

Luckily, all pokemon trainers are given a separate account to pay for pokemon food, but it's still a pain trying to feed them all. When I got back to my house, I released my current pokemon into the feeding area, built with my own two hands (After a lot of mess ups and professional advice). I kept the Growlithe's pokeball closed for now, making myself a couple of sandwiches before making way to my bedroom. I wanted my pokemon to at least respect me, so feeding them after first capturing them was something of a habit I had created, so I could bond with them. I opened the door to my room, finishing off my food before releasing the Growlithe. I was surprised when it immediately darted down to hide under the bed as soon as it finished reappearing though. "Am I that scary, little guy?" A whimper coming from under the bed gave me an answer. "Hmm..." I had never really had a pokemon that actively tried to hide from me. All the others were either aware of what I was actually trying to do, or aware of the fact that there wasn't anywhere TO hide. Crouching down on all fours to peek under the bed, I could see the Growlithe huddled up into a little ball underneath the bed. Now that I was looking at it properly, it did seem like a puppy, so no wonder it was scared. I reached into my pocket for the food, putting some in my hand and offering it to the little guy. "Hey, eat. That's why you attacked me, right? You could smell it, right?" I had actually started carrying some food for canine-like pokemon, in the hopes it might encourage one to ambush me.

It stared at me for a little while, trying to figure out if it should take the risk or not. It's stomach made the decision for it though, as it started shuffling towards my hand, sniffing at the food. It was really cute, actually. It hesitantly took a mouthful of food and then retreated backwards a bit. I pulled my hand back towards the edge of the bed a bit as it ate, hoping to lure it back out into the room so I could feed it more easily. It quite quickly finished eating the small amount of food it had acquired, and slowly crawled towards me, seemingly a little more confident that I wasn't going to hurt it. I kept slowly drawing my hand back out into the open, confident that he would follow it. And it did, hunger overpowering any fear it had. Having successfully lured the Growlithe out into the open, I let it eat from my hand, slowly raising my other hand to pet it. It was so tempting, it had incredibly fluffy looking fur, and it already trusted me enough to eat out of hand, right? I gently laid my hand on tip of it, and while it didn't stop eating and bolt, I could feel it tense up from the touch. It's fur was soft, and it was honestly quite pleasant to just sit there stroking it. A whine from the Growlithe brought me back to reality as it started nudging at my hand, clearly still hungry.

I chuckled a bit, and started looking around for something I could put some more food into, seeing as I didn't want to waste time filling up my hand over and over. Grabbing a food bowl I had leftover from when I only had a few pokemon, I grabbed the bag of food I had on me and poured a fair amount into the bowl, setting it down for the Growlithe to eat from. I pulled out my pokedex to check something while I continued patting the Growlithe. Doing a brief scan of it, I was informed that it was a boy. "Hmm... what should I call you, little guy?" It stopped eating for a bit to look up at me quizzically. "Heh, how about Max? Something simple." He let out a happy little bark at the suggestion, making me laugh. "Max it is then!" He let out another little bark before returning to his food, leaving me smiling as I continued patting his head. Another downside with having so many pokemon was that I didn't have enough time to spend it on bonding with all of them. But if today was any indication, I was going to make an exception for Max...
